Glaveck was elected to parliament last year on the list of the Liberal Movement, but withdrew from the party faction in the Seimas.
On Monday, E. Rudelienė confirmed that he had decided to go to the Seimas and discussed it with the leader of the Liberal Movement, the Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilyte-Nielsen and the Trakai branch of the party.
“The last few days have not been easy, firstly because it was too early for our partner to leave, it was very difficult to get along. But I chose to work at the Seimas, ”E. Rudelienė told BNS on Monday.
She said after hearing support from V. Čmilytė-Nielsen that seeing the mayor’s experience “would strengthen the faction.”
The Liberal Movement currently has an 11-member faction in the Seimas.
E. Rudelienė said that he has not yet decided which committee he will work on, he promises to deal with the faction, but imagines himself working on the Education and Science or Health Affairs committees.
“When I ran in the fall, I said that I would like to work on the Public Administration and Municipalities Committee. But I do know that a colleague is doing a great job there, so I might think about the Health or Education Committees right now. But it will really be necessary to consult with fellow group members, ”said the politician.
E. Rudelienė has been in charge of the municipality of Trakai since 2014, until the direct elections of mayors. In 2015 and 2019, she was directly elected to this position.
If the mayor decides to work in the Seimas, new elections for the mayor of Trakai must be organized.
The politician promises to inform the Central Election Commission of his decision this week.
Last year, E. Rudelienė participated in the Seimas elections with the Liberal Movement list, and also participated in the single-member constituency of Trakai-Vievis. Here he entered the second round, but ultimately fell to the Social Democrat Kęstutis Vilkauskas.
