A man returning from Tenerife in a full plane had questions about the inspection: is that control reliable?

The man told the news portal that on March 26. He returned from Tenerife by plane and, following the decisions of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, had carried out the COVID test in Tenerife and completed the questionnaire from the National Public Health Center (NVSC) before the flight.

“These two documents, which were on my phone in pdf format when I checked in for the flight, were reviewed by an employee of the Tenerife airport. The inspection was carried out without any specification. Means, that is, QR code readers or BAR. By the way, the same inspection, without any specification. Measures were also carried out at the Vilnius airport on a flight to Tenerife, “he said.

According to the traveler, upon returning to Vilnius, no additional checks were carried out on the COVID-19 tests and NVSC questionnaires and the departure to the city was free. That day, he said, two full planes flew back from Tenerife.

“If such a situation at Vilnius airport is permanent and not as an exceptional case, the question arises, how is the control of imported / mutated COVID cases managed? Most travelers are young, computer-savvy people who find that it takes a matter of minutes to change some data in a pdf document, and if the QR code is not scanned, the document can be falsified as needed. This means that when returning to Lithuania, there is an opportunity not to complete the NVSC questionnaire and thus avoid self-isolation. “

The same situation, the man continued, and with the COVID-19 test. According to him, how can an airport employee guarantee his originality without additional measures?

“So again, there is an opportunity to falsify this document. I hope that my observations will help the responsible services to assess the current situation at Vilnius airport and take measures that will help to ensure the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Reminded of impending responsibility

The NVSC commented that, by decision of the Ministry of Health-State Emergency Operations, its center only had the task of carrying out random checks on passengers arriving on non-charter flights, so the passengers of each plane are not controlled.

“Please note that carriers are required to ensure that all passengers submit a confirmation (QR code) of a completed electronic questionnaire for public health purposes HERE prior to entering the vehicle.

The fact that NVSC representatives do not meet all passengers arriving in Lithuania does not mean that passengers do not have to comply with the legislation in force in Lithuania, forcing them to have a negative result of the investigation. Furthermore, each passenger who gets on a plane or other vehicle is controlled by the carriers themselves. “

He also noted that when verifying people’s documents, the information provided in the document, the time of the investigation, the result is evaluated.

“And those who have thoughts of falsifying such documents are reminded that providing false information is subject to administrative and criminal liability.”
