Tomas Janeliūnas, Professor of International Relations and Political Science (VU TSPMI) at Vilnius University, says that if rulers do not continue to learn from their mistakes, the government will not only have to come to terms with sharp arrows of criticism, but Tensions within the Cabinet may rise. Meanwhile, the political scientist of the University Mykolas Romeris (MRU) Rima Urbonaitė lacks internal organization and logic in the decisions of the rulers.
“There really are manifestations of uncertainty and coherence in the decisions of the rulers. I don’t see the clear algorithm by which some big decisions are made. The government has been told more than once that there can be no announcements if there is no 120 percent certainty that those decisions will be made, ”the MRU political scientist told Eltai.
This is also emphasized by political scientist T. Janeliūnas of VU TSPMI. According to him, the government does not seem to be able to adequately inform the public about some of the decisions.
“The government does not find an adequate way to inform the public about its decisions (…). If you continue this style of government communication, communication errors will increase. Therefore, the reactions will be increasingly emotional and, apparently, such criticisms will only increase the tension within the government itself, ”said T. Janeliūnas.
According to the political scientist, the rulers themselves provoke negative public reactions because they generate excessive expectations that eventually they will not be able to fulfill. ELTA recalls that last week the rulers received much criticism for the decision not to open more points of sale, although the Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė spoke about the intentions to release the quarantine restrictions on the morning of the same day.
“When it comes to managing a pandemic and changing various limitations, people obviously expect some kind of facilitation, quarantine relief, such expectations seem to be caused by the Government itself suggesting that it intends to consider it, that it understands that those restrictions have lasted too long, etc. But in the end we have to abstain from this mitigation, because it is clear that the situation is dynamic, the number of infections is changing ”, emphasized the TSPMI professor.
Dissatisfaction with the government was also caused by decisions about vaccination procedures. Police officers were outraged and even staged a protest against the government, as they remained last on the vaccination list for priority groups. Finally, the discontent of state officials was provoked by the reaction of the Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis to this criticism of the Government. The Minister said there is no basis for the discontent expressed by the officials.
Political scientist T. Janeliūnas criticized such a reaction from Minister A. Dulkis, noting that it shows a lack of empathy. According to the professor, politicians are often sympathetic to their positions and tend to forget to take into account some human aspects of the problem.
“One of the biggest shortcomings of politicians is the lack of empathy. Really there are few of them who are empathetic and accurately sense the mood of the public (…) The explanation of the Minister of Health that there are always some groups important that vaccines can wait before officials … This shows their defensive reaction that their decisions must be defended, but the other party forgets that such responses and such a defensive reaction are likely to cause additional outrage to officials ”, said T. Janeliūnas.
Lack of logic in government decisions.
The MRU political scientist R. Urbonaitė lacks a clear strategy and logic in the decisions of the rulers, since he informs about the decision-making itself. R. Urbonaitė wonders if the rulers themselves really understand what they are saying.
“The further, the more difficult it is to grasp the logic of government decision-making,” said the political scientist.
According to R. Urbonaitė, fluid communication requires the full concentration of the Government. However, according to her, the rulers now lack organization. According to her, it is bad when information is made public for the first time and only then are decisions made.
“It just came to our knowledge then. You have to stand inside, because now it seems that the members of the cabinet are beginning to get into the wheels,” said the political scientist.
“Today we need an organized action from the Government and its objective must be to make society our allies. At the moment, in my opinion, it is not possible to do that and those mistakes cost a lot, ”said the political scientist.
