How to behave in the forest when you meet a wild beast

Nature is attracted to both family and sports enthusiasts, and those who want to seduce their pets or simply go for a walk in the fresh air. However, some forget that they visit the place where many different animals live, and when they do meet, they do not always behave as they should, the report says.

Kornelijus Alekna, specialist in the Department of Nature Protection, Management, Recreation and Hunting of the State Forest Company, is convinced that when we arrive in the forest, we must act as if we were guests: more than loud noises. A deer, stag, or other wild animal in the forest will notice it long before you do. Only an animal, by its adaptation and adaptation to live close to a human being, feeling safe (not dangerous) at a distance from itself, allows the human being to get closer.

So when you notice a beast, you shouldn’t try to get as close to it as possible, try to touch it, pet it, or feed it with your hands. And if the animal is close enough, you should not make sudden movements or make sounds to scare it, because a scared animal can be unpredictable: it runs in an unclear direction, it dances, it kicks. “

Should we be alarmed if we meet the whole group instead of a moose or a deer? According to the specialist, an animal is always calmer and closer to the person, calmer away from feeling danger. Meanwhile, a group of animals is always more active, more courageous, but when it ends, it can run in all directions. However, the animals that live in the Lithuanian forests are not dangerous to humans.

“An intimidated or cornered beast can become dangerous. Also a female with or guiding a chick or several of them, such as a female elk or wild boar. Such an animal can run towards you, kick or turn, bite. However, this it is just a defense to protect the puppies ”, explains K. Alekna.

Seeing a calm wild beast with many itchy hands to capture such an amazing sight or get close to touch, pat the beast. However, this should not be treated as garbage: “Do not approach the animal, do not try to pet or feed it, and most importantly, do not intimidate.”

The specialist reminds that pets must also be transported safely. When transporting a dog in a forest or forest park, it must be secured with a leash, it must not be loose, some breeds also need to muzzle it. “When a dog frightens or frightens a wild animal (elk, deer, deer, etc.), the animal retreats, runs quickly, and can damage parked or moving vehicles, injure or scare others nearby, injure or even die If your dog catches and kills a wild animal, you, as the dog’s owner, will have to compensate for the damage caused to nature ”, warns K. Alekna.
