Dainius Adomaitis, who assumed command from Hapoel in Jerusalem in mid-January, is likely not to stay in Israel for long.
Points are earned this season
Following a crushing defeat in the Israeli championship for Rishon’s Maccabi team (67:98) on Thursday night, the Lithuanian spoke of his desire to resign.
“We will talk to the management. If I feel that the players do not believe in the actions I do, leaving the team would be an easy decision for me,” Adomaitis said succinctly after the game.
Another curiosity occurred during the match with Rishon’s Maccabi. With Hapoel’s desperate defeat, fans of the team shouted angry slogans calling for the firing of Adomaitis, according to Roi Cohen, one of Israel’s most prominent sports journalists.
Cohen was criticized by Adamoma in early February after Gilbao Hapoel’s defeat in the Galilee.
“The Jerusalem Hapoel is just a dead team,” Cohen wrote on Twitter. “The players on the field are sending the message that they don’t want to be here, Adamoma’s minutes are very weak.”
As long as the 47-year-old Lithuanian leads the Jerusalem team, the team has won the Israeli championship 6 times in 12 matches and is currently in fifth place in the standings.
Hapoel also failed to defend the Israel Cup when they fell 84:90 in the semifinals to Rishon’s Maccabi, who landed desperately on Thursday.
Hapoel failed to beat the Balkans in the International League, where Rishon Club also reached the quarterfinals.
