With the approval of the Ministry of Culture, individual scholarships for cultural and artistic creators will be paid an additional 975 thousand. euros.

According to the report, additional funding for scholarships was found after the restructuring of this year’s funding programs for arts and culture projects.
“In order to respond as fully as possible to the growing need for scholarships, the Lithuanian Council of Culture reviewed project funding programs and, taking into account the ongoing pandemic situation in Lithuania and the world, decided to temporarily suspend some of the most difficult programs to implement this year remotely implemented, etc.) ”, says the Council report.
According to him, the competitions to finance residencies of artists and cultural creators in Lithuania, cultural education, international and inter-institutional cooperation of institutions of memory, visit and management of places of deportation and burial, and professional development will not be announced this year.
The Lithuanian Council of Culture invites those who plan to submit applications for the competitions of these programs, to redirect the planned activities and submit applications for the second funding competition in the fields of art, or to postpone the plans until the planned activities can be implement safely and maintaining its quality.
It has also been decided not to fund educational scholarships that promote mobility and direct contacts this year, and the funds allocated to them will also be distributed to finance individual scholarships.
The Culture Council states that it received an average of 635 applications from cultural and artistic creators each year before the pandemic and awarded an average of 252 individual scholarships.
This year 3,288 applications were received, almost five times more than those submitted for the first competition last year. The total amount requested is 10.6 million euros. euros.
The largest number of applications, 948, were submitted to this year’s competition by music producers and performers, the number requested is 3 million. euros. Representatives from libraries (11 requests) and museums (22 requests) expressed the least need.
Circus creators sent 25, architecture – 38, dance 84 requests. Representatives of cultural heritage presented 101 initiatives and representatives of ethnic culture and popular art, 141 initiatives. Designers submitted 198 applications, photography – 202, theater – 323, literature – 324, interdisciplinary art – 367, art – 504 applications.
The results of the individual scholarship contest are scheduled to begin publication in early April, with the finals to be announced in mid-May.
