“We would like all children to go back to school as soon as possible, but now the top priority is graduates. These young people face a serious test: the maturity exams, on whose results their new opportunities and options depend. It is important to get back in touch with education as soon as possible so that teachers can help as much as possible, especially those who have difficulty preparing for exams.
Therefore, I am calling one more time to remind graduates of the possibility of getting vaccinated. The faster and faster graduates and teachers are vaccinated, the more likely they are to return to classes ”, the minister addressed the heads of municipal education departments and schools at the meeting.
It was seconded by the Chancellor of the Ministry of Health, Jurgita Grebenkovienė, who urged the representatives of the municipalities and school leaders to seek the widest possible communication channels so that objective information on the importance and possibility of vaccination reaches all graduates and their parents.
Vytautas Usonis, Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine, welcomed the decision to vaccinate graduates in order of priority.
“Unfortunately, young people also have COVID-19, not everyone gets sick easily, there are very serious complications, we do not know how the disease will affect health in the future. It would be a very bad decision to let them get sick, it is a kind of Russian roulette ”, says the professor. In addition, vaccination of high school graduates would contribute to a more rapid development of public immunity.
At the meeting, V. Usonis recalled that even after vaccination with the first dose of the vaccine, it is important to continue to comply with the safety requirements. Until the majority of the population is vaccinated, we must take care of and protect each other: disinfect our hands, wear masks, keep our distance, etc.
