“The government will have to decide when will be the day that education is returned and if all education will be returned to contact lessons, lectures or stages, and this will probably largely depend on the level of immunization – what percentage of vaccinations it will have” said BNS the chancellor.
“If we see that 5 or 10 percent have been vaccinated, the question is whether this is a sufficient level of immunization for us to safely return to contact education,” he added.
When asked whether it is also planned to vaccinate students, J. Grebenkovienė stated that currently students undergoing practical training in health institutions are included in the order of priority. The rector did not comment on the possible vaccination of other students.
According to the Chancellor of the SAM, it is planned to use the AstraZeneca vaccine for employees of the education sector, which some municipalities have accumulated more. Consequently, although the ministry has previously decided to redistribute these vaccines from the municipalities that are more difficult to vaccinate, it has not yet done so so that they have a sufficient vaccine balance.
“The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports organizes and plans to carry out a certain campaign to vaccinate education as soon as possible. The goal is not to leave AstraZeneca and leave it in these municipalities to have enough of these vaccines for education, ”said J. Grebenkovienė.
Employees in the education sector, including teachers, personnel who provide various services in educational institutions, are vaccinated with a higher priority than some of the people who currently perform contact work, such as civil servants. According to J. Gebenkovienė, this decision was made precisely to open educational institutions faster, taking into account the negative impact of distance learning on the psyche and the quality of learning.
In mid-March, the government allowed contact primary education to resume in 45 municipalities, and 12th grade students were allowed to provide live counseling.
