The Vilnius City Municipality will undertake the renovation of the stadium on Kaukysos Street this spring. With the rapid increase in apartment buildings on the surrounding streets, it was decided to provide high-quality and publicly available sports infrastructure in the new district, so the municipality of the capital announced a public tender to purchase the necessary equipment.

“The city is a rapidly changing body and needs to adapt to the needs of its inhabitants. For a long time, the area where this stadium is located was industrial, but now it is undergoing a drastic transformation. Seeing that apartment buildings are increasing on Paupio, Aukštaičių and Manufaktūrų streets, we decided to bring the sports infrastructure closer to the people, turning the old and little-used stadium into a modern and open sports space, ”says Vilnius Deputy Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.

According to the deputy mayor, the existing stadium features an atypical old asphalt court, an asphalt basketball court and a low-maintenance natural grass soccer field. However, the site is located on a plot right next to the Vilnius river, in a beautiful location, so it has the potential to become an attractive place to spend time.

The site is primarily planned to renovate the track, replacing the old asphalt with a softer pavement. After modernization, the running track will also surround a soft-lined basketball court, two new beach volleyball courts, and an artificial soccer field. There will also be a state-of-the-art fitness area, a couple of pétanque courts and four ping-pong tables.

There will be spaces in the stadium for those who want to spend time more quietly: benches will be built around the squares, allowing you to comfortably watch your trainings, as well as four chess tables. A little further away there will be two paddocks surrounded by special walls. Cards available to the public will not have analogs throughout the city. All sites will be free and open to residents.

“We hope this object will be very popular after the renovation, and to last as long as possible, we will invest heavily in more durable materials and high-quality inventory, as well as exercise machines with a guarantee of up to fifteen years,” he says V. Benkunskas.

The preparatory work on the stadium territory will be carried out by the municipal company UAB Grinda. It is planned to allocate 120 thousand. euros. It is planned to spend another 225 thousand LTL for the acquisition and installation of equipment. EUR excluding VAT. The equipment and installation service providers will be selected through a competition.

First preparations are expected to begin this week and repairs will be fully completed early this summer. It is expected to entrust the maintenance of the object to the Public Institution “Healthy City”.
