Coronovirus challenges in Vilnius: COVID-19 unit returned, vaccination volumes expanded – MadeinVilnius.lt

With the decline in coronavirus rates across the country, the COVID-19 unit will be reinstalled in Vilnius and vaccination coverage will be expanded. Not only educators, but also high school graduates and residents with chronic illnesses will be invited to get vaccinated. At that time, returnees are encouraged to undergo a mandatory one-time antigen test. Although the situation is tense, it does not change Vilnius’ ambition to open more schools for contact education, as the experience gained during the month has shown how to do it successfully without endangering students and preventing potential tipping points.

Cumulative tests of school works

Since February 22, when the first contact education school was opened in Lithuania, two dozen schools have been opened in Vilnius in this way. The number of contact schools will only increase in the near future.

Schools are opened through cumulative tests: before the opening of the school, students’ families and school staff are evaluated, and after spending 4-7 days in contact learning, the test is repeated , but then only students and school staff are evaluated.

More than 20,000 tests are conducted in schools per month, more than 5,000 cumulative tests are investigated, and only a few dozen positive cases of COVID-19 have been successfully identified and prevented.

More population groups are vaccinated

Graduates and people with chronic diseases, who will be invited to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine, will join the accelerated vaccination of teachers. Lists are made of these groups of people who will be invited by the polyclinic staff for their vaccination.

There are plans to increase the number of treatment sites.

Although testing and vaccination have gained momentum, the situation is exacerbated by new cases and the spread of COVID-19 strains. Today at the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital Antakalnio str. 124 are only 5 of the 191 places for patients with COVID-19, it is expected that starting this Friday, patients with COVID-19 will be delivered again to the hospital unit on Antakalnio street. 57.

More is being tested

Vilnius is not slowing down and continues to test the working population in contact work. According to the procedure of the Ministry of Health, contact workers must perform an antigen test before returning to work. There are almost 800 spots left for antigen testing this week, but they will no longer be available in the coming days.

Before returning to contact work, the antigen test should be performed by: culture and art, physical activity and high-performance sports, catering services, retail, leisure and / or entertainment services (pool and sauna services, arcades, dance halls, discotheques, hall dance activities, cinemas and movie clubs, bars, discotheques and other entertainment venues, casino and gaming machine employees, bingo halls, gambling venues, beauty services and accommodation .

Everyone registers on the hotline by phone 1808 or electronically by completing an electronic registration form at https://selfreg.myhybridlab.com.

The increased scope of testing helps not only to manage the coronavirus situation, but also to gradually open service institutions and schools.
