The day before, 16,741 new cases of coronavirus infection and 396 deaths were reported.

Recent data from the Ministry of Health show that a total of 2,120,671 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the country since the start of the pandemic, with 50,340 deaths.

The ministry said Wednesday morning that 26,511 COVID-19 patients are currently being treated in hospitals across the country, of which 2,537 require artificial lung ventilation.

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,707,846 people have recovered from a coronavirus infection in Poland, including 13,971 the day before, the ministry said.

Data from the Health Ministry show that as of Wednesday morning, 3,385,835 people had received the first dose of the vaccine in Poland and 1,808,008 people had received both doses.

“Unfortunately, these signs today make us think very seriously about tightening the restrictions. We are considering whether to do it in individual regions or throughout the country,” the minister told media group Wirtualna Polska.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawieckis said the new restrictions would be announced on Thursday.

“The more people follow the rules and the more vaccinated, the sooner the third wave will end,” the prime minister said Tuesday.

Poland returned a series of limitations earlier this month to contain the threatening epidemiological situation. Among other things, schools, supermarkets and theaters were closed.
