After the restoration of independence, Mantas Knystautas became the 10th fighter of our country, defending the honor of Lithuania at the Olympic Games.

Since the time of Barcelona (1992), wrestlers have not missed a single Olympiad. Today, this tradition was extended by M. Knystaut, although he had to suffer serious injuries.

In February 2019, M. Knystaut shrugged, underwent surgery, but just before the World Cup in Kazakhstan, the trauma returned. While the wrestler was competing, he won one fight, lost another, and then lay down on the operating table again. This time, with the transfer of the bone to the shoulder and an even stronger reinforcement, the Lithuanian from an experienced wrestling surgeon in Germany was repaired again.

After a long period of rehabilitation, the 26-year-old was able to prepare for the qualifying tournament, where the decisive battle took place in the semifinals as the Olympic entries go to the finalists.

A couple of weeks ago, a player from Klaipeda had beaten his semi-final rival in a tournament in Hungary by a clear advantage. But the decisive battle for the ticket is quite another. The young Pole had nothing to lose. Throughout the tournament, he went berserk and presented the main surprise among heavyweights: defeating current European champion, Romanian Alin Alexuc-Zurari.

At the beginning of the duel, Mantas was fresher and sharper and won the opportunity to attack from above. It was only on the second attempt that he managed to pull the Pole off the climb, and the effort was capped with two points scored. It is true that R. Krajewski, with his lead at the top, cut a bit. But there are still two more and a half time.

The end of the duel was classic. Mantas was careful and, a couple of minutes before the final siren, his victory was beyond question. The Pole in Endspil completely fell apart, it was obvious. He lacked imagination, wisdom, and strength. Mantas just needed to keep the upper hand. And he got it!

The final with Russian Sergei Semionov is waiting on Sunday. It doesn’t matter what the result of the last duel is, the main work done today.
