“We may not be so terrible today, but we are worried about April, especially May,” said D. Jasaitis on the “Delfi diena” program.

“If that formula doesn’t change, I’m having a hard time figuring out how the business could be organized during the season. I would probably ask the government to make a very bold decision and say that four Lithuanian resorts will work in the summer, ”he said.

According to the mayor, although many orders were initially received for the summer, they are currently being canceled: Lithuanians are choosing other directions.

“We are getting messages that people are changing direction to Greece, to Spain, which means for those countries that have already said that summer will be there (there are some rules, but tourists are welcome). People are preparing to take the money earned in Lithuania, “said D. Jasaitis.

If there are no similar solutions, he said, Neringa could become a problem municipality.

“We have no industry, no agriculture, only tourism. We have 4-5 months, during which we earn for the whole of next year, we pay very high taxes,” said the mayor.

“If we are afraid of bold decisions, we will have one of the most beautiful municipalities, which the state will have to take out of the budget or something like that, because Neringa has no other income,” he emphasized.

According to D. Jasaitis, currently only 7 people have coronavirus in the district of Neringa, some of them are not even physically present in Neringa, they have only declared their place of residence here.
