The Kaunas Tauras district presented their team for the upcoming Hoptrans 3×3 tournament. Kaunas residents presented a surprise: the team’s jersey will be worn by the Euroleague champion, long-term member of the Lithuanian national team Jonas Mačiulis.
Alongside Kaunas, we will see Šarūnas Beniušis, Rokas Stankevičius, Žygimantas Šimonis and Paulius Semaška, who played in the National Basketball League (NKL).
“I had to think for a while, but I don’t have a contract to stop me, I will be insured, so I decided to play,” Mačiulis said of the decision to participate in the Hoptrans 3×3 tournament.
Beniušis and Šimonis represented the Marijampol “Sūduvai-Mantingas”, who played for the NKL last season, where some of the team leaders were, and Stankevičius and Semaška defended the honor of the Mažeikiai and Šakiai teams.
All of these players already have 3×3 basketball experience in various tournaments, while J. Mačiulis had to play basketball as a child: “So it was a little bit different basketball, with different rules than the current ones.”
The forward undoubtedly added that the representatives of traditional basketball will not be left behind in threesome fights.
“If Paulius Jankūnas” centers “half the world, he would probably do the same against 3×3 players,” said the Kaunas resident. “Even adaptation, it should be a difficult game, but then the pros would take over.”
When asked about the possibility of playing 3×3 basketball at the end of his career, Mačiulis was not categorical: “I still do not think about it, but I do not rule out the possibility that it could happen. Still, you want to go to your 4th Olympics, who knows how it could happen, either with a regular team or a 3×3 team. “
The Hoptrans 3×3 tournament in Palanga will consist of three teams (July 3-4, 10-11, 16-17) and a final stage (July 24-25). The tournament prize pool is 74 thousand. euros
All the marches of the tournament will be broadcast live on TV6 TV.
