“The 27 million settlement is the largest pretrial settlement in a wrongful death civil rights case in US history,” the attorneys said in a statement.
Derek Chauvin, a 44-year-old former Minneapolis police officer, is currently on trial for a murder and manslaughter case involving an incident on May 25, 2020, which resulted in the death of Flloyd. The video shows Chauvin pressing his neck to the ground and handcuffing Flloyd for nearly nine minutes.
Three other police officers, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and Alexander Kueng, are also charged with contributing to Flloyd’s death.
