We will register online for COVID-19 vaccines – is the “constant break” system ready for that?

According to the latest data, mass vaccination of the entire population is scheduled to begin in May.

Lukas Galkus, chief specialist of SAM’s Department of Information Resources and Electronic Health System, told Kauno Diena that joint registration through electronic health is planned for all residents, regardless of age.

“The sooner you register, the faster you will get the vaccine,” he said.

However, on Friday, Deputy Minister of Health Ž.Sonaitytė told reporters a little differently. According to her, no final decision has been made, but there is a tendency to recommend registration for the elderly in the first place.

Electronic health has been repeatedly criticized for its poor, often stagnant performance.

15 minutes asked a representative from the Registry Center if the system would withstand mass registration of people for the vaccine.

“An eHealth system, like any other IT system, can be challenging at the same time, but it can be managed by distributing the flow of applicants evenly, for example, differentiating the process by age groups or others. As usual , there is regular communication with the system administrator, the Ministry of Health, on this and other issues related to eHealth ”, says M. Samkus in his comment 15 minutes.

He stressed that the administrator of the e-health system is SAM, who organizes and manages the activities of the information system, makes decisions about its development, modernization, maintenance and administration, so that questions can be better answered by representatives of the Ministry.

Ž.Simonaitytė agreed on Friday that this will be a challenge, but assured that it is already preparing for it, updating this system and installing additional capabilities.

According to her, a backup log system is currently being developed, which would be used in case of problems.
