“The role of women, their leadership in our society, no longer seems to evoke crooked smiles. However, Lithuania’s progress in ensuring real gender equality is still embarrassingly too small,” the president said in a greeting on Facebook.

The president points out that last year Lithuania ranked 22 among the 28 countries of the European Union (EU) in the European Gender Equality Index: its indicator is 56.3 out of 100 points, while the EU average is 67.9 points.

“Over the last decade, Lithuania’s progress in the field of gender equality has reached 1.4 points and is slower than in other EU member states. The most obvious gender inequality in Lithuania is the participation of women. women in the decision-making process: only 34.1 points out of 100. The bottom line is that only a society that adequately values ​​the role of women can create a modern state, ”said the President’s Notes.

In her congratulations, she also thanks the women who worked in the health trade, social work and education sectors during the pandemic.
