According to Alina Kovalevskaja, Vilnius Municipality Senior Education Advisor, BNS is scheduled to return to schools in addition to the Vilnius Duke Gediminas Prince Gymnasium, who is already learning by contact, whose families have already agreed to participate in the project.
“So far, we have selected three schools, namely Baltupiai Progymnasium, J. Basanavičius Progymnasium and Vyturys Primary School. The main criteria are the health professionals working in the school, because now the schools will have a heavy workload, they will have to do a lot of the work themselves. Our goal is to get as many schools as possible to get back in touch with education. But it is a complicated process, so we will move forward gradually, “Kovalevskaya said.
He stressed that returning to classes is voluntary only with parental consent.
According to Karolis Vaitkevičius, spokesperson for Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius, currently speaking with BNS, the first tests are scheduled for the end of the week.
The Municipality of Vilnius reported that it is planned to resume education in the three aforementioned institutions from March 15. Surveys of school communities will be conducted in the coming days to find out how many classes could actually return to schools.
According to the decision of the Vilnius Government and Municipality, contact education was resumed two weeks ago for most of the Vilnius Duke Gediminas Progymnasium beginners. K. Vaitkevičius stated that so far no cases of COVID-19 have been recorded during the educational process.
After the government extended this project in Vilnius last week, the municipality was allowed to resume primary education in contact in several more schools. The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports is waiting for responses from other municipal schools by Tuesday, who would like to join the initiative.
After the announcement of the second quarantine in Lithuania on November 7, most of the students switched to distance or mixed learning, from mid-December onwards they were on leave and from January also to study from home.
