Mečys Laurinkus. When and why to ratify the Istanbul Convention and what awaits the Association Law

However, one would like to ask the drafters of the convention why some concepts have been treated differently and, more importantly, in more than one country. Where already, and there can be imprecise places in this type of document. And if they do, the legitimate question is: aren’t additional goals being pursued?

Discussions on this topic have also started in Lithuania under the conditions of the pandemic.

Proponents of the convention are outraged that society is being artificially divided, and critics, without even reading the document, are manipulating concepts that do not exist at all in the original text, such as “social gender.”

Yes, no, but translated similarly to other languages. Misunderstood? Coincidence? Is it the innocence of the editors of the convention? And what are the opinions of the authors of the document? When it comes to talking about values, this is especially important these days. In my opinion, the fragmentation of society is a good thing because you start to think about what is being signed.

We remember very well how, not only without discussion, but also after reading a very small circle, the Seimas approved the European Constitution.

Satisfied with the “European” and “related to national security” declarations, many international documents were approved in Lithuania. Over time, people began to read and wonder what it meant. There is plenty of time before fall to discover all the gray areas of the Istanbul Convention.

A much more complex, confusing, and multi-layered problem is the Partnerships Bill. The President of Lithuania also caught fire in the discussions, if you can call them that. I support him, who has joined the priest A. Tololia for being attacked for not even an exclusively personal opinion on the Istanbul Convention.

“Today, a public inquisition has been formed in Lithuania: people who imagine they can mix dissidents with dirt, and do it in a sometimes disgusting way …” An accurate description of the situation of the president’s “exchange of views” in Lithuania. Yes, indeed, words are no longer chosen for the opponent. Social networks provide all the conditions for this.

I did not sign against the president of the Seimas Human Rights Committee and I consider such actions to be very dangerous. Politicians in particular should avoid them as they can also lead to physical violence for some people. It is also helpful to think about the possible consequences for sensitive lawmakers.

The partnership bill in our state is obviously too early and the closer to registration in the Seimas, the more disgusting atmosphere will form. Unless specifically desired. There are politicians who understand this and even take preventive measures within their ranks.

Shaking one’s head, one wondered why there was only one person left in the election of the TS-LKD president, when all the candidates, even a dozen, refused to run for the position of party leader. I do not believe that such a near biblical determination is for unity or focused work without distraction in party discussions in the face of a pandemic.

One of those who refused, P. Saudargas, I think, said the rationale: I don’t want the election of the party president to bring an artificial confrontation, isolation, closure in the trenches. “

Among the members of the TS-LKD there are conservatives for whom the term “family” is not freely interpreted. Needless to say, it does not coincide with the views of the Freedom Party or even part of the TS-LKD. Disagreements would soon become a Bikford rope for the coalition.

Some of the opposition is already criticizing those in power over the convention and the association, and is even writing public letters expressing concern for the fate of the family. When evaluating letters of concern to politicians, the word sincerity is generally not mentioned. However, G. Landsbergis’ advice to R. Karbauskis to take care of his family first is not correct.

If we start to analyze the relationships of politicians in their families, we will go a long way. The Ten Commandments of God and those who keep them are slightly different things. What matters is what the planets revolve around. For hundreds of years, Christianity has also revolved around the relationship between the family as male and female.

The world is changing, and the Christian tradition is changing, or more precisely, it faces challenges that make us think about the changes that are needed.

There are also categorical statements. The LGBT movement is seen as a “foam” in a powerful wave that could sweep away both Christianity and the Western civilization that grew up in it. And these are not statements by crazy, hysterical people, but who have significant names and positions.

Seeing gay carnival marches, which in Lithuania are only a faint reflection of them, brings to mind many terrifying thoughts and even a comparison: isn’t it like the collapse of the Roman Empire?

I do not think that Western civilization is collapsing, although I have read a lot on this subject, and even if such signs exist, it is certainly not because of the change in the concept of ‘family’. On the contrary, tolerance increases, phobias decrease, opportunities to combat violence expand, whether women or men, or other thoughts and orientations.

But that does not mean that there are no sharp stones in the way and that securities laws should be passed without digging or thinking.
