To reduce the risk of COVID-19 mutations, which are rapidly spreading around the world, entering Lithuania and ensure travel safety from Wednesday, March 10, it will be mandatory to test for COVID-19 before travel to Lithuania, the Ministry of Health said.

People traveling on international routes, regular, special and charter services in all modes of transport must have a negative result in a COVID-19 test performed no earlier than 72 hours in advance. The test will be compulsory for all people from the age of 16 inclusive.

A new obligation has emerged for carriers to ensure that passengers report a negative COVID-19 result before boarding. The control of arrivals at airports and seaports will be faster, since control officers will have to verify less passenger data.

The exceptions for a negative COVID-19 test result apply to:

  • crew and crew members carrying passengers on international routes in all modes of transport;
  • people in transit through Lithuania;
  • people who have relapsed COVID-19, when the diagnosis has been confirmed on the basis of a positive result of a PCR test or an antigen test and it has not been more than 90 days from the positive test result before returning or get to Lithuania;
  • people who have been vaccinated and registered in the European Union Drug Registry under the vaccination scheme;
  • for people under 16 years of age.

The exception applies to those traveling in their own vehicle: an investigation will be possible upon arrival in Lithuania.

Exceptions for the entry of foreigners into Lithuania are set out in the Government Resolution on Quarantine (No. 1226, p. 2.1.2.). In other cases, people from abroad can only enter with the permission of the Minister from a separate area of government.
