“It is impossible to say that there is an absolute reduction here and that it will continue to be so. (…) This is today’s picture, “G. Andrulionis told BNS on Tuesday.

According to him, the quantities of vaccines delivered are constantly changing.

“From the beginning, those amounts fluctuate: bigger, smaller. This is something that constantly changes,” said the head of the Drug Control Service.

According to G. Andrulionis, supply volumes have been reduced for the whole of Europe.

On Monday, the Health Ministry informed BNS that the supply of AstraZeneca vaccines had been reduced by almost a quarter in half a year since March.

However, on Tuesday, the representative of the Minister of Health, Aistė Šuksta, clarified that the volumes have been reduced to four months, in March, April, May and June.

According to her, the reduction in supply volumes will lead to changes in the vaccination schedule “along with an updated list of priorities.”

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, for his part, said on Monday that the gap due to reduced supply of AstraZeneca vaccines should be filled with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine produced in the United States.

According to the person in charge of the country, the vaccine from this manufacturer should be approved in the European Union in March.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is unique in that a single dose is sufficient. It was recently approved for use in the United States.

The country uses three COVID-19 vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA): Pfizer and BioNTech, and Moderna and AstraZeneca.
