On Monday, Irena, a resident of Klaipda, and her 92-year-old mother went to the Klaipėda City Polyclinic. The grandmother had been invited to come for the vaccination from 12 noon to 1 in the afternoon.

In a row – 40 minutes

“We got there especially 10 minutes after 12. We thought maybe everyone would want to be first and there would be no more congestion,” Irena said.

However, there was already a line outside the door of the polyclinic. Irena, saving her mother’s health, left her sitting in the car, queuing herself.

According to old Marti, I had to queue outside for about 40 minutes. Some of the elders were also accompanied by younger relatives, others were alone. Disabled people were also seen among them.

“When we got to the polyclinic, everything went well. It is true that perhaps there was a lack of space near the changing room. However, the vaccination process itself was well organized,” said Irena.

After the procedure, the grandparents were asked to sit still for 5-10 minutes and only then leave. The interlocutor suggested that perhaps this is due to a lack of flow regulation: some elderly people sat longer than expected.

Irena, who feared for her mother’s health, now fears that she might have gotten sick while she was away for so long.

“We have another old man at home, if I got sick, there would be no one to take care of him,” he said.

Those who want to get vaccinated – more than expected

How 15 minutes Loreta Venckienė, chief physician at the Klaipėda City Polyclinic, said that more elderly people came to get vaccinated on Monday than expected, leading to queues.

According to her, some 300 people did not come to get vaccinated during the weekend, although it was planned. Some of them still decided to get vaccinated on Monday and, despite the allotted time, they had arrived. “Others came to us, even though they had another vaccination facility. Apparently, they didn’t understand the information that way, “said L. Venckien dijo.

According to the head of the institution, when that traffic arrived, previous plans also collapsed.

According to preliminary estimates, about 600 older adults were vaccinated at the facility alone on Monday. Typically, between 200 and 400 people were vaccinated per day.

L.Venckienė stated that in a few weeks the planned booster vaccination process will be more carefully prepared so that misunderstandings persist.

In Klaipeda, vaccination against COVID-19 is also carried out at the Seafarers’ Healthcare Center.
