During a meeting at the Saeima Defense, Home Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee, its member Janis Adamson also asked the minister if the government also plans to buy Chinese vaccines.

Mr Pavlut replied that Latvia would use all vaccines registered by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). So far, the country has ordered preparations from seven manufacturers.

“At the moment, neither Sputnik nor anyone else [vakcinos]Chinese or Indian, they are not registered with the European Medicines Agency. The pharmaceutical companies turn to this agency themselves and Sputnik is involved in some negotiations. However, to my knowledge, the registration procedure has not started yet. Once this is done, we can seriously discuss the use of these vaccines, ”explained the Minister.

Sputnik V was registered in Russia last August. Initially, many researchers questioned the effectiveness of this drug because it was registered before clinical trials were completed. However, the authoritative medical journal The Lancet later reported that the vaccine was 91 percent effective.

To date, Sputnik V has been approved by some 30 countries around the world.
