Charismatic personality, passionate artist
Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė, president of the Union of Artists (LDS), remembering the painter A. Vozbinas, who left today, said that he was a charismatic personality, a passionate artist.
“We have been to art residencies in Paris several times … The painter was a fan of Parisian expressionism, he has captured extremely beautiful works: the urban landscapes, the setting, the mood of the mecca of art. It would be possible to call A. Vozbinas sponsor of a French school in Lithuania ”, said the president of the LDS about the creator.
The expressive painter, who has not lost contact with the real world, has not entered into absolute abstraction, although there are abstract paintings in his work. Many mythological, historical themes, graphic works, landscapes, body art. A versatile painter who loved colors, life. He loved life through color, ”said painter EG Bogdanienė vividly.
The artist has actively participated in exhibitions, has organized and curated various projects in Lithuania and abroad. One of the most famous projects is the International Symposium of Artists “Soutine Days” (1998 – 2014).
The art world, according to the LDS president, will lose, above all, the painter. “It is rare for those who enjoy an expressive line, the painter used it virtuously. Contemporary interdisciplinary art often displaces the so-called pure media, lines, color harmonies, shadows ”, he pointed out.
We will lose the world that was, now is no longer
Patricija Poderytė, project manager of the Vilnius City Council, who helped organize several exhibitions of A. Vozbinas’ works, said that the creator’s exhibition is still displayed in the city hall today. Unfortunately due to the quarantine it is not available to visitors so a 3D tour was created, a short movie of the subway.
“I met the artist personally, a very lively and temperamental person, a completely unexpected death. A colorful personality, and his paintings are full of vivid emotions, colors, movement, ”said P. Poderytė.
“Natural, vivacious, energetic, open”, – descriptions that reveal the extraordinary form of the painter spread from the lips of P. Poderytė. According to her, painting was the essence of the creator’s life.
Speaking of the artist’s works, the interviewee noted that the author was brave, both in his work and in his life: Bright and contrasting colors. The figurative paintings represent many women, movement. His imagination is volatile: here he presents himself as a king, here he drinks red wine from a glass. “
In A. Vozbinas’ exhibition “Stories about Vilnius and Lithuania” on display at the Town Hall, there are bright connections with historical signs and, according to P. Poderytė, all the author’s work is related to him.
“His works are rich not only in natural motifs, but also in the imaginary of the city, heroes, princes,” said the interlocutor.
According to P. Poderytė, when the artist goes to Eternity, we and our relatives will lose a lot.
“We are all a separate planet when it comes out; we lose the world that was, now is not,” he said sensitively.
The beloved irony and the grotesque
1958 A. Vozbin was born as a student of Augustinas Savickas.
Since 1990 Member of the Union of Artists of Lithuania.
The artist has participated in more than 300 different exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, organized more than 30 author exhibitions.
The works have been acquired by: Lithuanian Art Museum, Lithuanian Art Foundation, Vilnius City. Municipality, M. Mažvydas National Library, Sharjah Museum of Art.
“I perceive life as a sequence of paradoxes that determine the destiny of man, in fact, a biological being – wrapped in the cloak of society. Birth and death do not depend on the will of the individual. It is beyond human will and cognition, ”wrote A. Savickas about his work on his personal website.
“I have loved the story since childhood and it may have helped me better understand the background to this never-ending performance, where the same drama takes place all the time, only the characters who perform the same play from generation to generation change. Probably none of us today and right here could fully define its meaning. The fragility of an individual in the face of fate can be slightly sweetened with irony and grotesque details. That could be the motto of my creation.

I like to find a pictorial metaphor by which I can describe this or that phenomenon of being. I like the color, the structure of the image, the playful moment. I like to paint because it can feel like a “demiurge” at least for a short time, to model a situation from lines, colors, planes. Thus discovering something unexpected and something interesting. Through color, tone, semitone, the path of the invisible being to the visual world begins for me… ”, taught the artist with a brilliant memory.
