All you have to do is taste the unwashed strawberry and the unexpected guest already in your body: Doctors warn of a spreading disease

The strawberries are thoroughly washed in the market by Irena, who sells imported berries in the market. The woman says she takes it to her mouth, freshly washed, to taste what she buys, and asks the buyers.

“We disinfect our hands. We take a clean watercress, so we give it a flavor if you ask for it a lot. If you ask a lot, “says saleswoman Irena.

And asking in recent years, as the woman says, less. People are scared even in the market. Tastes only brought home:

“It just caught our eye then. You need to protect your health.”

“Well, not that hygiene.”

The seller tests the berries grown in his garden and unwashed. They say that what grows in the garden is real, there, clean and reliable. And here gardeners say that even berries grown in their own garden can be dangerous.

Specialists from the Center for Communicable Diseases and AIDS are only reaching out to such users. After all, in recent years, the incidence of worm diseases has started to rise. Almost in the first half of this year, specialists recorded around fifty cases of worm disease: ascaridosis.

Almost ten more than last year. Often avoiding medical attention, testing is done quietly in the laboratory. Therefore, there may be many more people with this disease. The source of the infection, experts say, is the man himself.

“They lay eggs. Therefore, with feces, they enter the environment in which they must mature for another person to become infected. In the intestine, the eggs dissolve. The larvae hatched from them. It then enters the human bloodstream and travels with the blood through the lungs for about two weeks. Then the larvae rise to the top, our bronchi are swallowed by a person a second time, and then the adult ascarids grow, “says epidemiologist Aušra Bartulienė.

It is transmitted to humans when eggs enter the body through the mouth. The symptoms of the disease are very diverse. In a person’s body, the worm lives in silence without causing much discomfort and silently poisons the body. It causes discomfort to another.

“Cough, shortness of breath, rashes can occur. Sometimes even pneumonia develops,” says A. Bartulienė.

When parasites travel through the intestine, a person may also feel poor appetite, indigestion, abdominal pain, or diarrhea. And not only ascarids: other parasites can settle in the intestine due to poor hygiene, often invisible to the naked eye. A specialist in the parasitological research section of the National Laboratory of Public Health talks about dangerous protozoa.

“It just caught our eye then. They’re generally not like roundworms. They’re not visible. And if you catch a lot of them, it can also cause phenomena like bloating or intermittent diarrhea. And there are protozoa that also cause intestinal perforation, including liver ulcers. ”Said Daiva Veitienė, a specialist in parasitology.

True, even if a person examines in the laboratory on his own, he must attract specialists. It is best not to self-medicate when fighting worms on your own. And everyone else should wash their hands and hands well before eating fruits or vegetables. Especially now that not only parasitic diseases but also the dangerous coronavirus are frightening.
