The Service has carried out inspections in recent weeks in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda. Merchants inspected in markets, street outlets, shopping malls near supermarkets.

The most common irregularities detected by inspectors are reported to be that the price labels for vegetables, fruits and berries do not provide the buyer with the necessary information about their country of origin, quality class, variety or this information is incorrect.

There were cases where merchants did not have documents on strawberries, watermelons, cherries, blueberries, and other fruits or vegetables, confirming the quantities of products sold and suppliers, and the quality of all products did not meet the requirements of the standards. marketing.

There have also been cases of hygiene violations when products were stored directly on the floor or on the ground, merchants failed to ensure protection of products from external contamination when they traded near freeways, worked without health checks, and did not attend hygiene knowledge courses.

According to the inspectors who carried out the inspections, the quality inspections of the fresh fruits and vegetables offered in the Klaipeda markets were not detected during the inspections, but there were isolated cases in which the traders did not provide the inspectors with accounting records .

Meanwhile, in Vilnius, without merchants who guarantee traceability and demonstrate the origin of the fruits and vegetables sold, it is prohibited to supply the market with almost 600 kg of fruits and vegetables, 72 liters of various types of juice drinks. Merchants will also be subject to administrative responsibility for detected infringements.

SFVS inspectors from Vilnius and Kaunas departments also clarified 18 cases (13 – in Vilnius, 5 – in Kaunas) when seasonal fruits and vegetables were marketed without the necessary permission for this activity.
