TS-LKD Executive Secretary Martynas Prevelis told BNS that 16 politicians have been nominated so far. They will have three days to decide whether to accept the presidential election or not.

The final list of candidates is expected to be announced on Friday.

According to M. Prevelis, practically all departments appoint the current party chairman, Chancellor Gabrielius Landsbergis.

Nominations of members of Seimas Laurynas Kasčiūnas and Paulius Saudargas are also put forward, but they are proposed about one and a half times less often.

Both MPs have not yet revealed whether they will compete for the post of TS-LKD president.

Among the nominated candidates are also the eldest of the TS-LKD faction in Seimas Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, the Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė, the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Šiugždinienė, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Seimas Žygimantas Pavilions, etc.

The first round of elections for the party president is scheduled for March 27-28, and the second round will be held April 24-25 if necessary.

For the first time, the Conservative leader will be elected in so-called open elections, when not only party members but also their supporters who have registered for the elections have the right to vote.

Lithuanian citizens over 16 years of age who do not belong to other parties or electoral committees and support the values of TS-LKD will be able to register for elections on Election Day.

By registering, the person will also acquire the status of party sponsor. According to M. Prevelis, this will allow him to participate in all upcoming open party elections without additional registration, be informed about his work and, in his opinion, influence future party decisions.

The registration of non-matches will take place from February 27 to March 23.

The election of the President of the TS-LKD due to the epidemiological situation will be organized only by postal and online voting. Non-party members who have registered to vote will only be able to vote online.

According to the statutes of TS-LKD, the results of the election of the party chairman are announced during the congress, the congress participants do not need to approve them.

G. Landsbergis has led TS-LKD since 2015.

In 2017, 5,539 party members or 62.4 percent voted for him in direct elections.
