The so-called shadow government convened by the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (LVŽS) convened its first meeting on Monday. During the meeting, the LVŽS presented its previously published guidelines on managing the pandemic, some legislative initiatives planned for the spring session of the Seimas and asked parliamentary leaders to discuss the concept of family.
As the shadow prime minister of the LVŽS and party leader Ramūnas Karbauskis said at the beginning of the meeting, a group of initiators tried to hand over more than 300,000. signatures to the president of the Seimas in connection with the removal of the member of the Seimas, Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius, from the position of president of the Human Rights Committee of the Seimas.
“Democracy in our country requires that everyone’s opinion be heard, whether they like it or not. At this point, we have an initiative that has garnered a large number of signatures. There is no discrimination in that document, we look at it. The issues raised in that letter are relevant to the state and society’s activism at the time of signing confirms it. Therefore, we must allow, create opportunities to discuss these issues in the Seimas, ”said R. Karbauskis.
According to him, all matters of public interest should be considered in the Seimas.
“We do not analyze or delve into the content itself (initiative of Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius – ELTA), we are only talking about democracy in the state itself. It does not matter how many firms there are, whatever the opinion, it must be listened to and evaluated, ”said R. Karbauskis.
With 13 votes in favor and 2 abstentions, the peasants promised the authors of the initiative to help deliver the preparations collected to the leadership of the Seimas.
For her part, Deputy Seimas Agnė Širinskienė presented an alternative to the amendments to the Civil Code planned by the rulers.
“To regulate legal and economic problems, but not to grant family status to other couples who are not married couples of men and women”, A. Širinskienė summarized the position of LVŽS.
Representatives of various non-governmental organizations also spoke at the meeting, expressing their support for the initiative on the protection of family values.
Legislative initiatives presented
Shadow Minister of Education, Science and Sports Eugenijus Jovaiša spoke at the meeting. According to him, in the spring session of the Seimas it is necessary to prepare 10 amendments to legal acts related to education: to serve people who have returned from emigration, to strengthen school independence, to allow teachers to reimburse professional expenses, to strengthen teacher training. and recycling processes, foresee the early retirement of teachers, to solve the problems of higher education, etc.
“There is much talk in education about all kinds of conditions to create a quality education. There is only one condition that is absolutely necessary: a good teacher. (…) The problem of a good teacher persists, therefore, it is necessary to link the teacher’s professional career (…) with education “, commented E. Jovaiša about an initiative.
More initiatives related to the protection of prosecutors, whistleblowers, the environment, apartment building renovation procedures and unemployment issues were presented at the meeting.
As Tomas Tomilinas, a member of the LVŽS group, said at the meeting, companies are now encouraged to use the downtime system indefinitely.
“There are no conditions, the company can use it indefinitely. (…) We offer to use the experience and mechanisms of last year, which are somewhat different. They promote work, help companies for four months in these difficult times; provide some subsidies to maintain jobs in conditions similar to the schemes in 2020. “… Expenditures are now needed to maintain jobs, as the consequences of the economic recession and job losses may be much greater than the short-term costs, “said the informal minister of Social Security and Labor.

Meanwhile, Deividas Labanavičius, appointed shadow Minister of Economy and Innovation, expressed concern about the situation of sports clubs during the pandemic.
According to him, representatives of this sector are fully prepared to provide services safely.
“My suggestion would be that the shadow government consider and formulate guidelines for sports clubs to start operating and what financial support to provide to these clubs so that they can start freely. Then request it from the Government with these guidelines ”, said D. Labanavičius.

According to D. Labanavičius, entrepreneurs who trade in non-food products also face great challenges, and it is also necessary to allow them to resume their activities.
“It just came to our attention then. Common sense says that we are in a situation that shows that the path chosen by the Government is wrong,” said R. Karbauskis.
Guoda Burokienė, a member of the LVŽS faction, further noted that it was necessary to reduce the financial burden borne by municipalities.
Speaking about patients, shadow health minister Aurelius Veryga said municipalities should be tasked with caring for patients who continue to live in a treatment center or return home.
An initiative was also presented to reduce the amount of additional documentation in medical institutions during vaccination processes.
“If a person makes a decision and arrives, they will no longer be required to sign so many different documents, which slows down a lot, slows down, makes the process difficult and places a bureaucratic burden on doctors,” explained A. Veryga.
