Psychiatrist Martynas Marcinkevičius tv3.lt states that various situations can occur and sometimes these people just need help, maybe they need specialized help or even treatment.
A psychiatrist familiar with this story believes that in this and similar cases the primary mental health center should be consulted, who could assess the person’s condition and, if necessary, recommend treatment.
According to the expert, there are frequent cases in which people with mental illness do not tend to harm another and do not seek to harm them directly, but due to the illness they may not understand their actions and their consequences.
“It just came to our notice then. When dementia happens, they might forget the gas turned up and light a fire to burn in the middle of the room. You may be a great smart person for life, but in old age, dementia or Alzheimer’s realized and the need to warm up with junk occurred to him. Such a person is not malicious, he does not want to harm anyone, but represents a danger to others “, says M. Marcinkevičius.

The psychiatrist states that it often happens that a person with a mental illness does not understand this and considers himself healthy.
“There are many of these citizens who feel completely healthy and do not want treatment. Psychiatrists and social workers are not allowed. This is probably where the hardest part begins.

They think that the neighbors are poisoning themselves, then they go to the neighbors, they break up, they look for gas here, ”says the doctor, adding that psychologists and psychiatrists do not always manage to talk to that person.

Ramūnas Matonis, the head of the Police Communication Department, assures that several calls made by sick people, similar to the case of Klaipėda, are a big problem, but officials are not able to respond to that call.
“Yes, there are enough calls of this type and it is a big problem. The police cannot fail if they receive a call, they must react.
If the calls are continuous, from the same person, the same phone number, depending on the content, it can be forwarded not to the response forces but to the police station that serves the area.
