Biden: Russia is attacking our democracies

Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to weaken European projects and undermine the transatlantic partnership, Biden said. At the same time, the US leader warned against going back to the “world as a block like during the Cold War.”

In both Europe and the United States, democratic progress is under attack, Biden stressed. The challenge for the West is to demonstrate “that our model is not a relic of history.”

Competition with China is intense, predicted the American leader. “We can win this race for the future,” he added.

Biden also criticized Iran’s “destabilizing” activities in the Middle East and the Gulf region. His government is ready to reopen talks in the UN Security Council on Iran’s nuclear program. Washington “will work with its European partners and others on this issue,” Biden said.
