The Lithuanian basketball trio has taken another step towards international recognition. It is clear what the new Hoptrans outdoor stadium will look like, opening its doors this year.
This building will have capacity for around 1.5 thousand. viewers, their area – 1.6 thousand. square meter. It will be the largest open-air stadium in Lithuania. It is also important that it is mobile: mobility will allow events that take place in the arena to be moved to various corners of the country.
It is in such arenas that the highest level trio basketball events on the planet take place – the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Masters tournaments. The new stadium will also be distinguished by hosting the stands that will receive fans under its roof.
Rolandas Skaisgirys, founder of the 3×3 basketball association, says that the development of the idea for such a building in Lithuania started in 2019, after visiting the Masters tournament in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
“What I saw in 3×3 basketball, the most amazing arena was there. When I came back to Lithuania, I said that we would have such an arena here. I can say that this field is even better. The difference is natural: the Jeda stadium is adapted to the sunny and dry climate, and ours, to the rainy and windy climate, so it is structurally different, more adapted to European climatic conditions. But the infrastructure, the image, will be the first arena of its kind in the world “, R. Skaisgirys said.
“Of course, that would be a trump card for the Masters tournament. The arena is mobile: you can travel to Stockholm, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Vilnius or Druskininkai, its uniqueness is also in it,” he added.
The new arena will open its doors to fans in the final stage of the Lithuanian 3×3 basketball championship, which will begin in the spring. It will also be possible to watch high-level trio fights in the Hoptrans 3×3 tournament for the second summer in a row.
“The stadium we used last year in Palanga had between 500 and 600 seats. It took about a month to collect. They can’t even be compared. Although that arena was cozy, good, with its charm, but there is a completely different level here.
In addition, the Hoptrans stadium will be used this summer not only for various sports competitions or local community events, but also for other entertainment: concerts or watching sporting events such as the Olympic Games or the European Football Championship.
