At the post-match press conference, Kaunas rivals’ strategist Nenad Čanakas cited too many errors in the first half as the reason for the loss.
“We did not play our best game. It’s a shame because we lost the game making 9 mistakes in the first half and not doing the things we agreed to. If I had known why this happened, it would not have happened. Our mistakes were at the kindergarten level, ”N. Chanakas said of the loss in the final.
The most useful weekend player award went to Žalgiris leader Joffrey Lauvergne. After the match, the tallest enjoyed a personal assessment.
“I think this is the first time that I have obtained an MVP from this type of tournament. It’s a great feeling. I won the cup in Turkey, Serbia and France. I enjoy this season, it is special. We are happy to be able to play in the current COVID-19 situation, ”shared Lauvergne.
The head coach of the winners was happy with the first trophy won in Lithuania at the press conference.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Surprisingly, there are no fans because winning trophies makes everyone happy, and now those emotions are lacking. Still, I’m very happy that I won this title. The club already won it and we were favorites, but we’re still happy, ”said Schiller.
The main reason for the victory, according to the specialist, was defense.
“I think we’ve done a good job on defense, and that’s where the attack begins. I was pleased with the way the players listened to me in our conversation this morning because it’s difficult to do it in tournaments like this. Our preparation was difficult, because we played without Lukas Lekavičius, some men also had health problems ”, said the coach, the main reason for the victory.
Mr. Schiller also welcomed Mr. Lauvergne, who had earned the MVP laurels.
“His influence was enormous when he scored many points from the penalty area. He is also a very unique person, adapts easily to his character, works hard, admits his mistakes and asks what is not clear to him. These qualities make him a great teammate ”, praised M. Schiller to his student.
After the Citadele KMT trophy was handed over to Paulius Jankūnas, the veteran soon handed the title over to the coach. The latter rejoiced at the student’s action.
“Jankūnas’s gesture was special. Paul has won the cup several times, but I haven’t, so it’s a lot of fun for me. Those chances of winning titles don’t happen often. Jankūnas supported me from the beginning. The core was very important. at that time: Jankūnas, Marius, Milas, Thomas, who is already practically Lithuanian. His confidence was fundamental for me when I started working with the whole team, “said the Kaunas strategist.
Asked about the pending celebration, Schiller said he knew the team’s traditions, but at the same time wanted to go home to his family.
“I have heard of the traditions of the celebration. All I can say is that they are special. I want to go home with my family, my wife and my daughters watched the game and they supported us a lot ”, concluded the coach at the press conference.
