19 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Lithuania – this is the highest number in the last month

The total number of infected people rose to 1,752, the health ministry said Thursday.

There are currently 296 people with coronavirus in Lithuania and 1,372 have recovered.

74 people have died since COVID-19, and ten more have died from other causes.

As of the first day of June, 14 cases of imported diseases have been registered in the country.

Veryga: certain areas may need to be quarantined

After confirming nineteen new cases of coronavirus infection in Lithuania every day, Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga says that people’s rush to organize celebrations comes at a price, and the public must understand that the need to protect themselves persists.

“It just came to our attention then. That quick flight to vacation, to meetings. (…) One infected person is enough, then we have dozens of high-contact people, we test them all and then we find a dozen. So it’s how the disease spreads, “Veryga told reporters on the Seimas on Thursday.

“The virus is in Lithuania. The threat is nowhere to be found …. You still need to be careful, have certain tools,” he added.

On the last day, 19 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Lithuania, which is the highest number of confirmed daily infections in the last month.

The Minister does not rule out the possibility that local quarantine may be issued in some individual settlements due to the threat of spread of the coronavirus.

“Although it has been decided to abandon quarantine across the country, I have already mentioned that it may be necessary to quarantine certain locations. Until now, there has been no such need,” the minister said.

According to A. Veryga, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, one should not rush to organize celebrations, larger gatherings.

“It just came to our attention then. Clearly, we can see and understand how difficult it is for society to handle it, because everyone is in a state of tension and anger, it is difficult to be in that regime,” he said.
