L. Jonauskas, who initiated the amendments to the Code, proposes to establish fines several dozen times higher than those currently in force for driving vehicles in forests where it is prohibited and driving under the forest floor.

Following the adoption by the Seimas of the proposals to modify the Code of Administrative Offenses, it is proposed to impose a fine of between 500 and 1,500 euros for driving a vehicle through forests where it is prohibited to do so, as well as for illegal driving through the forest floor . The vehicle would also be impounded from the driver for these violations.

Member of the Seimas Linas Jonauskas proposes to strengthen responsibility for repeated offenses.

A person arrested for recidivism would receive an even higher fine of between 1,500 and 3,000 euros.

“A lot of ATVs are being stopped for infringement for the first time. I think for serial forest destroyers 3000 euros and the confiscation of a vehicle would already mean something and they would really think about whether it is worth risking not just receiving such a fine , but also to lose the vehicle, ”said L. Jonauskas.

The new amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses also aim to facilitate the arrest and punishment of offenders, and it is proposed to increase the fines to € 600 for driving a vehicle without a license plate, with falsified, covered or disguised or affixed plates. .

It is also proposed to give the police and the State Border Guard Service the right to arrest offenders for driving in a forest where it is forbidden to do so and to draw up an administrative violation report.

According to L. Jonauskas, after accepting the amendments proposed by him, such “entertainment” will be very expensive for drivers who like to ride quads or other motor vehicles in the forest on the road.

“The current fines do not scare forest destroyers at all. For a person who can afford an expensive ATV, the existing fine of 20 to 50 euros for illegal logging or 140 to 300 euros for the destruction of forest floor does not mean nothing. SFE employees and environmentalists note that the number of these forest destroyers increases every year. They do not choose where to travel. In the forests are destroyed reserves, habitats of protected Natura 2000 species and deadly four-wheelers. the destruction of wheeled forest destroyers, I propose to drastically increase the fines, ”said L. Jonauskas.

At present, according to current legislation, driving in a forest where it is forbidden to do so is classified as a low-risk activity, so offenders can pay with a simple warning and not incur administrative responsibility.
