In order to stabilize the vertical displacements of the bridge deck, in 2007 part of the bridge deck was reinforced with new tensioned cables and concreting. This year, experts from the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University recommended that the same reinforcement work be carried out on the rest of the bridge.

The Vilnius City Municipality has applied to the Lithuanian Highway Administration (LAKD) for funding for the repair of the Valakampiai Bridge and is awaiting a response. Funds are requested from the LAKD-administered Highway Development and Maintenance Program Reserve to restore the carrying capacity of the Valakampiai Bridge.

Heavy transport from the intersection of Nemenčinė Highway and Kairėnų Street will be diverted to the city center via Kairėnų, Centrinė, Šiaurės and S. Batoro streets. When driving from the city center to Nemenčinė via the Valakampiai Bridge, it will also be necessary to choose the ring road route in advance, avoiding said bridge via Naujoji Vilnia. About 250 permits are issued per year for heavy transport or freight transport on Kareivių Street through Valakampiai Bridge, during this period, as emphasized in the municipal report, no permits will be issued to drive across this bridge.
