“It just caught our eye then. We really looked at the electronic space, we saw speeches, comments, certain initiatives, we predicted it, we also saw it in 2008. During the crisis, when some people lost their jobs, there was more uncertainty about tomorrow, and not all faced their psychological issues. To this day, we also see such things. This is not just a Lithuanian phenomenon, we recall the case of Estonia, when neither this nor the other was revealed, fires and similar processes are taking place in other countries, “said R. Požėla on Wednesday after the Seimas National Defense and Security Committee.
The Commissioner General of Police said he would consider the insults and accusations.
“We feel that people’s health is at certain limits,” said Požėla.
The increasing number of murders is worrying
According to the Chief of Police, compared to last year, the overall crime situation has not changed much.
“It is extremely worrying that there are more murders in a period of five months. There are ten more murders. These are quarantine phenomena, that is, the quarantine period has increased this number of murders.
We have made certain incisions, and most murders are the result of conflicts in the immediate environment, even without conflict between members of the immediate environment. Friends, friends, drinkers who consume excessive alcohol do not share anything and grab knives. We joke about possible prevention: ban alcohol in those houses and pick up knives so that there is no one with whom to commit crimes, ”said R. Požėla.
Thefts have fallen
According to the Commissioner General of Police, robbery remains the dominant type of crime by number, but the number of reported robberies decreased by 13-15 percent.
“Those robberies that have sounded loud, have a resounding nature, because both the damage done and nature itself is when the people who work the land suffer. We should be happy to have several accomplishments, detainees, groups and continue working in that direction, ”said R. Požėla.
The Commissioner-General of Police was unwilling to associate criminal trends with returning migrants.
“Some of these people are known to the police and are monitored both by the Lithuanian police and by other law enforcement agencies in the respective countries. Some newcomers are prone to crime, but this is not the only reason why there are more murders and why crimes are committed together, ”emphasized R. Požėla.
Police offices are being restructured
The National Security and Defense Committee in the Seimas also discussed the reforms that are being carried out or that are being discussed by the police.
“Intense discussions are currently taking place about the reorganization of the Police Department, specialized police facilities, and the organization of work not of the ten county police commissioners, as there is now, but the transition to five counties. This is how the courts work, the prosecutor’s office. Here are essential strategic questions and more: we talked about the need to bring the police officer even closer to the person, how to increase the sense of security of the rural population, “said R. Požėla.
The General Commissioner of Police is also in favor of expanding the units and reducing the number of executives in the Police Department.
“In this way, we will increase the efficiency of the institution’s activities and invest the funds saved in increasing employee motivation,” said R. Požėla.
Attempts are being made in four Lithuanian police stations (Klaipėda city, Plungė district, Šiauliai district and Šakiai district police stations) to organize work in a different way, in order to create specializations.
“This is so that people can spend more time on specific investigations, and certain officials can act more proactively, that is, work proactively with people in the area, try to avoid criminal activities,” said Požėla.
The Commissioner-General of Police hopes that the fall experiments will be completed and the results can be summarized.
Tightening – due to wearing vests
After the tragic incident in the Mažeikiai district, when a police officer was killed, there will be even more strict control over whether officers wear bulletproof vests.
“It is a strict imperative that all responding officers must wear vests when they go to events. Now there is an adjustment, for controllers, who must not only ask or remember to” wear a vest, “but also visually ensure that the officer is wearing it. Similarly, when driving on the street, the Commissioner General had the right and duty to visually verify that people wore that vest when they saw the police patrol. (If not worn), it will be a violation of official discipline with all the circumstances that derive from it, ”said R. Požėla.
