Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė held a remote press conference on Friday afternoon, emphasizing that the opening of educational institutions remains a priority for the government. The head of government also stated that the release of the restrictions on movement has not yet been considered.
The Vilnius City Municipality expects to start a pilot initial contact education project on Monday, when some primary school children return to Vilnius Duke Gediminas Progymnasium classes.
Prime Minister I. Šimonytė stated at the press conference that she supports the pilot project.
“Education remains the biggest challenge for us. On the one hand, it is very important that students go back to school as soon as possible, especially for elementary and high school graduates. But we know that opening schools, as research confirms , causes an additional wave of illness as contacts increase significantly.
We will even try to carry out a pilot project to see if the school can safely start with certain test schemes. And if that works, then the horizontal decision for schools to come back a little later, ”said the Prime Minister.
The head of government said that so far the flow of people entering the country has been controlled by stricter administrative measures.
“Arrival control is reinforced by the existence of agreements between SAM and the Ministry of the Interior, as well as the Ministry of Transport and Communications on control at the airports themselves. Airlines will also be asked to inform all departing persons of the obligation and need to complete the questionnaire. (…) As the flow of traffic arriving by air or by sea is not very high now, we believe that stricter administrative measures will be able to control this flow, ”he said.
There is no talk of easing movement restrictions.
I. Šimonytė stated that so far there has been no talk of the release of the traffic restrictions.
“So far, we are not discussing the resumption or liberation of the movement very intensively. There are several reasons for this, both the general epidemiological situation, which is not really perfect yet, and the fact that we are trying to talk to individual municipalities, where the epidemiological situation is much better than the Lithuanian average and it is improving, on a possible separate regime. That more releases could be made within them, “he said.
I. Šimonytė said this could only be done if the municipalities commit to carefully monitor the situation, test, isolate and identify the chimneys.
“So far, no decisions have been made on this matter. Discussions are taking place, they took place yesterday and will take place next week, if that plan is put in place. In this case, the release of Movement restrictions would also mean additional risks. I understand that circular municipalities are not too affected by this, but the principle must remain common, “he explained.
The Prime Minister said that the country’s municipalities, showing good epidemiological indicators, can expect quarantined releases.
“Probably the main difference between various municipalities in Lithuania and all the others is that those few municipalities are already in Scenario B in terms of the number of cases. This is around 100 cases per 100,000. population in 14 days. When the Lithuanian average is 400 and the Lithuanian share reaches 500, it is obvious that the national quarantine measures may seem too strict in such a local assessment, “he said.
Depending on the number of patients, the country’s municipalities in quarantine scenario B could have appropriate releases, Prime Minister I. Šimonytė said.
“The increase in contacts and the risk that people move more, even within the municipality, can cause some deterioration. And it is very important that it is handled quickly and proactively. There are no solutions yet, just an idea. Today, there is a good opportunity to find a way to implement it, ”he said.
He is pleased to have a municipality in the country where no new cases of coronavirus have been reported during the week.
The full plan is expected to be approved on Monday.
Has received a lot of criticism
Following the easing of the quarantine announced but not implemented in the services and commerce sectors, the government has received a series of criticisms. On Friday, small and medium-sized businesses even hold “funeral drives.”
The prime minister told a government meeting on Wednesday that decisions will be made next week, probably Monday.
“We are doing the intermediate work that needs to be done, we are updating the scheme and next week we will try to approve that updated scheme at the Government meeting, and if the amendments to the resolution mature during that time, we will make amendments to the resolution,” he said. I. Šimonytė at the government meeting.
According to the Prime Minister, it is desired that the package of all relevant decisions be taken at the same time.
“Some of the activities have led to discussions with experts, but the problem is probably not the discussion itself, the discussion is good, but the fact that the discussions took place on Monday and Tuesday was largely closed last night and left some problems unsolved. “I said. Šimonytė.
“And then perhaps it would be good if those decisions or those guidelines, no matter how much the Government needs here, validated more, less unanimously and more or less at the same time, so that there is not a whole series of decisions,” he said.
According to I. Šimonytė, in the near future the Ministries of Health and other ministries will prepare decisions to strengthen entry control into Lithuania.
In addition, if successful, a plan will be prepared by the weekend or next Monday for municipalities that are rapidly “going green” or would like to “green” quickly, under which conditions more liberalization could take place there than in the principle of activities “, explained the head of government.
Delfi recalls that Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys announced at the end of last week that Lithuania came out of the worst quarantine scenario D and reached C. Therefore, it is possible to speak of easing the quarantine conditions.
