Some individual municipalities have already started vaccinating teachers. According to the Ministry of Health, there are already about 1,200 people vaccinated and the systematic vaccination of teachers will begin within the deadlines established by the municipalities themselves.

“I understand that you plan to start in the next few days, at least next week. The question also arises of how many vaccines are available in Lithuania so that they do not stop after starting the process,” said Tomas Daukantas, head of the Ministry’s Legal Department. , at a press conference Thursday.

If a teacher refuses to be vaccinated, the educational institution must develop a communicable disease testing plan, according to which the teacher must be tested at least every 10 days. The tests must be free for teachers.

If the teacher disagrees with the test, according to T. Daukantas, this may be a legal precondition for the teacher’s removal from office. The employer, in accordance with the Law for the Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases of People and other laws, has the right not to pay you until the day you are tested for a communicable disease or to transfer you to another job in the same place of work.

However, exclusion will depend on the directors of educational institutions themselves, it is expected that such measures will not be necessary.

“If it is not vaccinated and the infectious disease test is not carried out, the manager has the obligation to eliminate it,” says T. Daukantas.

Prophylaxis is not performed in subjects who have been confirmed for coronavirus infection by real-time PCR or SARS-CoV-2 antigen tests, or who have been vaccinated according to a vaccination schedule in less than 90 days, and in subjects who have tested positive for serological antibodies in less than 60 days.
