S. Jarumbauskas, playing his debut season in the LKL: so far I misjudge my performance in the LKL

The twenty-year-old Vilnius Basketball School (VKM), which plays in the first season of the Lithuanian Basketball League (Betsafe-LKL), opened its doors in 2007-2018. Starting from the second team and spending 8 seasons in it, the teenager was noticed by coach Raimundas Kairis, who in 2015-2016. Mid-season, he was invited to the most capable school team of the 2000 generation.

2017 S. Jarumbauskas won the MKL U-17 silver, his first medal, and the school basketball march was crowned with gold at the prestigious U-18 championship a year later.

“Since childhood with my dad outside, I kept throwing myself into the basket. In first grade, it seems to me that my mother took me to the Vilnius basketball school, enrolled in training and started playing sports with coach Dmitrijs Semionovas. – Simas remembers the first steps in basketball – I remember that there were many children in the group. When I was a child, it was very “faina” for me. The coach bounced in all kinds of fun games. Pick up that ball and at first you don’t understand what to do with it (smiles). You learn to hit it, to throw it. It was really fun. “

It’s not just the victory that matters

Prietai CBet’s basketball player S. Jarumbauskas remembers his first coach D.Semionov with the greatest warmth so far: “We were his first group. For young children, training with him is a dream. The coach turned all penalties into games and tasks. It gave us a lot of freedom to trust ourselves. He educated us, nurtured us, and taught us to be human. He had a lot of communication, not just about basketball. Playing sports with him was a “kaifa” for me.

A 197 cm tall Vilnius resident does not indicate the number written next to the name of the school team: “We young people need to play as much as possible. For me it was even better to play in the second team because I had a lot of time to express myself. I think it’s better than being in the first team and watching your friends play. I think I need to take the opportunity and go where I can play more. While you are young, you are the one who improves the most. Clearly, those victories and titles are motivations, they are infinitely expensive for all children. But personal development is extremely important. Not only the titles are important, but also the improvement process itself ”.

Remembering the golden U-18 championship and coach R. Kairis, the VKM student distinguishes the team’s approach and defense:

“We were a really strong team, we had Deividas Sirvydis, Domantas Vilis, Mykolas Astrauskas, we had a giant under the basket Jonas Paukštė (smiles). We really work a lot with coach R. Kairis. I think we won that championship on our own. We were a team like a fist, nobody looked at how many points they scored. The most important thing was to defend ourselves, and we attacked where the best option was. In my opinion, the most important thing for R. Kairis is defense. The coach was very demanding, but he helped everyone, he explained who did not understand what. It took a long time to learn how to defend the zone, but we learned (laughs). I am very grateful to this coach. “

Loves hard work on defense

S. Jarumbauskas has no doubt: you have to play basketball where you feel happy: “There were invitations from other basketball schools. I thought a lot, but decided that I had a lot of freedom here, a good coach and a team. I trusted ERM because the school has been around for a long time and has grown a lot. I decided to stay where I felt very comfortable and comfortable. I was happy with the ERM and decided there was no need to change anything. “

A basketball player who plays in the offensive defense ranks and light forward in the CBet ranks never shied away from hard work on defense: “Maybe there’s a parenting that has to fight. It hurts, it doesn’t hurt, but you have to defend yourself. I like to defend, for example. You can “close” the best rival player. Of course, it happens that you fail, your opponents are stronger, but you always have to push yourself. I really liked Chuck Eidson. I remember watching his game “In the Morning” when I was a kid, my dad explained, showed what and how was happening here. “

A “Pearl Energy” in 2017 Knocked down S. Jarumbauskas exploded in all his beauty in 2019. March, when he scored 39 and 41 utility points in two games with Šakiai “Vytis”.

“At first it was difficult to enter, it was difficult to play. He was not used to physicality, speeds. When I gained the trust of coach Arvydas Gronskis, teammates, I realized that I could do something, says Vilnius. – At that time, you couldn’t even dream that you both could collect. It seems that we have played as usual. Sure, I dropped shots, I bounced the balls. Opening and looking is “faina”, but not the most important thing. The most important thing is how the team is doing.

Winning launch in the European Championship

S.Jarumbauskas entered Lithuania’s twelfth youth national team for the first time in 2018. In the European Championship match with Montenegro, the Lithuanian scored a three-point win:

“I had to be there for Rokas Jokubaitis to take the ball and then I had to put Erika Venskas on the ‘low post’, and he had to throw over physically weaker opponents. But somehow he was not allowed to take the ball. ball, he walked away from me and thought he needed to throw. We can all be thrown or thrown. I felt like I could hit. For me, this is the most memorable throw yet. Plus, it was my first team. We could “lean back” maybe 13 -12 points per minute or a half. There was a real spaceship there, but it was our fault that we cooked porridge this way. After that there was happiness (smiles) “.

Recalling the stage in the youth teams, S. Jarumbauskas affirms that in the European Under-20 Championship, which was canceled last summer due to the global pandemic, the team was able to achieve the medals it dreamed of:

“I think we could have achieved more in the U19 World Cup. Every year we become a better team, another year, the same basketball players, the same team of coaches with Gediminas Petrauskas, Virginijus Sirvydis. I didn’t even expect the atmosphere was so “super”. We never raised our heads, we always fought for everyone. We lost the match to the French for bronze and we didn’t taste those medals. I think we really would have achieved that medal in the U-20 Championship. It’s a real shame that the pandemic prevented the championship. We were all waiting for that championship and everyone felt that we could really achieve something. That was the way it was for everyone, nothing to change, it’s a shame, because it was our last junior championship. “

Dream Team at the Euroleague youth tournament

With the greatest pleasure, S. Jarumbauskas remembers 2018. May, when he triumphed with the Vilnius youth team “Rytas” in the Euroleague youth tournament in Belgrade.

Then D.Sirvydis, D.Vilys, J.Paukštė, Marekas Blaževičius played in the golden youth team “Rytas” together with Simas, Augustas Marčiulionis, Ąžuolas Tubelis, one year younger.

“When there was a selection stage in Kaunas, the merger of the A.Gronskis team gave a lot. At first it looked scary, maybe something else. But after the first match, we realized that we could fight. We really work a lot on defense. In Belgrade we lived in a room with D Servydis. Somehow we silently think to ourselves that we should take. So we went. We won almost just before Real Madrid, and in the final we beat Stellazzurra from Rome. We had a good wardrobe, we still had burning eyes. Ready to tear, remove, retrieve, open, close. This is definitely one of my most memorable titles, ”says the basketball player.

“It was kind of like watching the EuroLeague final four up close. Fenerbahce fans in Istanbul were very impressed. When you’re sitting in the sand and the brightest stars pass in front of you … We didn’t say anything and just watch , we enjoyed the moment ”, – ERM student shared his memories.

The immediate objective is to take advantage of the opportunities offered

Now S. Jarumbauskas is going through an adaptive rookie season in the LKL championship. So far the most successful match for him was the match with “Šiauliai” in January. For 19.34 min. Vilnius scored 10 points (4/5 doubles), bounced 10 balls and scored 14 utility points.

“I came to Prienai for a check-up and I immediately liked the vision of coach Mantas Šernius. Prienai has excellent conditions for working with young people. All opportunities are provided both personally and as a team. At first I thought maybe there wouldn’t be that much difference between NKL and LKL, but when the training and the match started … You really see how radically different the speeds are, the decisions, how to react on defense and how little time you have to make decisions, “CBet newcomer.

The season averages (3.6 points, 2.1 rebounds) are far from the dream figures. The difficult first half of the season is recognized by the basketball player himself:

“So far, I rate my performance in LKL poorly. I could definitely do much better. I have many opportunities, but I do not take them. Our task for the newcomers from the National League is not to score points or determine the end of the game. But During those 10 minutes, I have many opportunities not only to score points, but also to make decisions. He needs to work and take advantage of the opportunities. For me, the motivation is in each game, for us each victory is important.

The constant ascent to the mountain reflects the character of S. Jarumbauskas: never give up and give up.

“Of course, after a bad game, it’s unpleasant, but that’s the whole process, training, video reviews, conversations with the coaches. You go, you play sports and you try to learn something to be better. We can all give up, the way easier. But it’s not that interesting, “concluded Simas.
