On Tuesday, a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation was held by videoconference.
During the meeting, coaches for youth teams were approved, the composition of the LKF Mastery was updated, team goals were set, and other current issues were discussed, a press release announced.
“Rokas Kondratavičius was confirmed as coach of the U16 women’s team, and Remigijus Bardauskas was confirmed as coach of the boys,” LKF general secretary Mindaugas Špokas said after the meeting. – The second thing that was presented was about the candidacy of the coach of the student team. As a result, they are now negotiating with one of our top coaches.
Until decisions have been made, we have not been able to confirm anything, which I believe will be confirmation at the next meeting. “
– During the meeting the goals of the Lithuanian teams were approved. What are they?
– There were two questions. One is the approval of all the selected programs and the other is the goals of the selected teams. The goal of the men’s team is to win both matches and qualify for the European Championship through the European Championship qualifiers in February. After that, leave the group in the Olympic team, win first place, reach the final and thus reach the Olympic Games. The Olympics traditionally get between 1 and 8 places, as it is a prize place.
The same goes for men’s 3 × 3 basketball. They will start the Olympic team from May 26 to 31 and the objectives are exactly the same: to enter the Olympic Games. We have a strong national team, the goal is for them to be healthy and able to represent the national team and reach the main tournament, ranking from 1st to 8th place.
The women’s team just left today for Istanbul and will play games with Serbia and Turkey on Thursday and Saturday. We still have the theoretical possibilities, so it all depends on them and the goal of getting into the Eurocup in 2021 and 2023. We will see this because today the situation to reach the European Basketball Championship in 2021 is complicated, but everything is in their hands.
The youth goals remain among the top eight in Europe, to remain in the elite. The goal of all teams is to win medals, we want that too, but we don’t want it to be a psychological pressure from the beginning to keep them in the same eight in case of any interruption. The goals for the women’s teams are more modest as they all play in Division A. The goal is to get from ninth to twelfth place, have prestige and stay in the first division, which is not so easy.
– Dainius Novickas will be included in the LKF Mastery Commission. Is it important to have a 3 × 3 basketball man on this committee?
– First of all, we are happy that Dainius Novickas has been confirmed as a member of our masters commission, because 3 × 3 basketball is going up very high and is an Olympic sport, like 5 × 5. For the Masters Commission it is fundamental to have someone who understands 3 × 3 basketball and understands its development, so we are happy that his candidacy has been approved and approved unanimously. From the next meeting, Dainius will be able to participate in all meetings: strategy training, appointment of coaches, etc.
– Lithuanian basketball will celebrate its centenary next year. It is planned that many Lithuanian basketball legends and fans will form near the Lithuanian Basketball House. Who will bring these prominent personalities together?
– These people will be chosen by fans and a special commission. First, we present the names that we would like to see as members of the commission, who are our most prominent historical figures, who understand the history of our basketball, who have an understanding of history itself, who write about it. Now it is our duty to contact them and get their confirmation that they agree to contribute to this project and help choose those legends. The only thing I can say is that the commission will be made up of 15 people and they will be in charge of choosing 100 legends. In April, on our 99th birthday, we will begin with communication and a list extended to the public, as the public will have the opportunity to vote for the most distinguished people.
Our main objective is to open the site of the legends of the century with all the most prominent personalities in 2022, on the occasion of the centenary of the centenary, on April 23, at the Lithuanian Basketball House. This project is fully funded by the Basketball Federation.
– The Lithuanian Basketball Federation appealed to the Seimas Sports and Youth Affairs Commission regarding the losses suffered by LKF members during the first wave of the pandemic. Have you discussed this with the members of the executive committee today?
– We are very happy to have a good mutual understanding with the Seimas Sports and Youth Affairs Committee. With your president, Virgilijus Alekna, Andrius Kupčinskas and other members who are really proactive when it comes to the damage caused by the first and second waves of the pandemic, what consequences do we face as a community? It is from the basketball federation that we have provided a letter on the damage that the first wave has done to our community.
We have agreed with clubs, leagues, schools and now that we should send a letter of clarification to members in the near future so they can adjust and update the losses they have suffered to date. We should receive a response in the next few days and we are preparing for the effects of the second wave on the scope of the losses, as we have received a letter / recommendation from FIBA that the European Commission has established compensation. mechanism that includes sport. We have pointed out that source to the members of the Government and to the Seimas, and we hope and hope that a compromise will be found, as well as for culture, and that sport will be compensated at least in part.
