The public hearing of the project proposals, which was to take place in the afternoon, turned into an informal discussion of the neighbors. Entrepreneurs who intended to build a Maxima store on the parcel between Laukininkų and Vingio streets on Monday asked the Klaipėda municipality to withdraw the announced project proposals, and their public presentation was canceled.
“You can say that this is our little victory,” Vida Martišiūtė, president of the Žara community, which opposes the planned construction, said in a remote interview with residents.
The three united communities – Žara, Linas and Vyturita – collected the signatures of nearly 400 residents, which they turned over to designers and builders with claims.
“Three-quarters of the letter that we signed was, in my opinion, about the fact that there should be no projects, because there is already a large concentration of those stores with us, and Hyper Rimi is building on the other side of the road. It is simply not necessary, despite someone’s business interests, “said Algirdas, a representative of the population.
According to V. Martišiūtė, in general, the development of commercial objects on Vingio Street should be restricted.
Although the neighbors want the new shopping center not to appear in their neighborhood at all, if this fails, they promise to demand that the project be adjusted and that the interests of Klaipeda residents be taken into account.
Seimas member Ligita Girskienė, who joined the conversation of Klaipda residents, called to address city leaders and offered to hold a conversation with city authorities this week or next.

Rasa Paulauskaitė, the project manager of the UAB Mak group, who prepared the project proposals, told Vakarų ekspres that the construction of new buildings near residential houses is always a source of discussion, so it was not surprising.
“As it was decided to spend more time analyzing the proposals and possibly correcting the project, we suspended the publicity process. The public will be informed about the publication of the revised project proposals when they are prepared, ”said R. Paulauskaitė.
