Quarantine new construction: some offer a house, others drive 100 km and some do not want anything

Rita Karavaitienė, marketing director for CV-online job posting portal, says more than 80 percent. offers work in companies in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.

“The rest look for workers in the regions or work from home. 7 percent. the place of all job offers is indicated in the “work from home” place, that is, a specific workplace is not defined and employees from all over Lithuania or even abroad can apply for such offers ”, explained the specialist .

According to R. Karavaitienė, the search for employees in the regions is definitely not easy for several reasons:

“In smaller cities, employers don’t have such a large selection of employees, there is a lack of employees with the right qualifications, skills and motivation for the job. Often the supply far exceeds the demand. For some workers, not “worth it” or difficult to travel from smaller towns or villages to work in nearby larger cities, lack of training, recycling opportunities, or unwillingness to take advantage of them.

In addition, the aging of society, low wages or hard work and the difficulty of disseminating information about the job offered contribute to the increase of the problem. Employers are often forced to search for the right employees outside of their city or county. Depending on the nature of the job, they offer accommodation or the opportunity to telecommute, reimburse transportation costs, or arrange for staff to be transferred. “

Transport workers from other cities or hire remotely

Aušra Bytautienė, director of the Association of Personnel Management Professionals, says that often employers in regions first look for nearby employees and, without finding help, turn to recruitment companies.

Then we look for the necessary specialists in a wider area. There are examples where people from Kėdainiai, Radviliškis or Panevėžys work in companies operating in Šiauliai, and employees living in Klaipėda work in companies located in Mažeikiai.

There are still companies that operate in large cities, which, having learned to work remotely, began to look for employees in the regions, ”said the specialist.

According to her, there was a long stage in which really most of the best professionals were gathered by the big cities.

“However, the pandemic has shown that workers who can work remotely generally have the opportunity to choose a job no matter where they live. People discover that it is possible to live in a nice and attractive place and work for a physically distant employer.

So far in Lithuania we are talking about working for an employer in another city or settlement, but high-level specialists who speak excellent foreign languages can already get a job at any workplace in any country in the world, ”said A, Bytautienė.

Most people look for work in Lazdijai, the youngest, in Neringa

According to the Employment Service, the highest number of job seekers on January 1. was recorded in the Lazdijai region – 24.6 percent. (2670 unemployed people), Kelmė – 22.0 percent. (3296 people), registered unemployment in Vilkaviškis and Rokiškis district municipalities: 21.7% each. and 4,494 and 3,619 people were looking for work, respectively.

And the lowest unemployment is still in Neringa, 188 people are looking for work there and 3,839 people are looking for work in the Klaipėda district.

Of the five largest cities in the country, the fewest number of job seekers was in Šiauliai, 12.1%. 7696 people are looking for work there, and the majority of the population looks for work in Kaunas, 17.1 percent. – 30146 people.

2020 in total, almost 217 thousand were registered in the country. vacancies represent 10.4%. less than 2019 Employers recorded the highest number of vacancies in Vilnius County – 29.2%, in Kaunas – 18.7%.

The search for employers in the regions depends on the required professions. If they are low-skilled, finding employees doesn’t take long because there are no specific requirements for the job.

In recent years, employers (not just during the pandemic) have been looking for some workers not only in their own city or district, but also in the surrounding area and across the country, e.g. welders, doctors, teachers, etc.

When they do not find employees, employers increase salaries, improve working conditions and repeat the selection of employees, if possible, depending on the nature of the work, they also offer teleworking. There are many professions on the market, such as a welder, production operator or nurse, for which telecommuting is not suitable.

For several years, the Employment Service has offered job seekers the opportunity to reimburse travel expenses to work by participating in a mobility support measure. 3,001 people benefited from this support, in 2019-5309.

Interested in retraining opportunities

According to the employment service, job seekers are already interested in vocational training opportunities.

“Especially during the pandemic, there was more free time when it is possible to improve skills, therefore a number of unemployed people started looking for opportunities to fulfill themselves by choosing various courses and trainings. Other reasons are personal goals, people are not satisfied with their current qualifications, they did not enter higher education on time. Even one in three clients of the Employment Service does not have a profession.

With the announcement of the quarantine in the country, the clients of the Employment Service, like everyone else in the country, had the opportunity to study remotely with those professional training providers who were prepared for it. The theoretical training is carried out remotely, the practical training – in the employer, if he does not declare downtime or suspending the training in the practical part of the training until the end of the quarantine ”, commented the Employment Service.

According to their data, 5,575 people completed vocational training last year, at that time in 2019. – 8,901 people.

“The distance learning process was dominated by IT training programs (programming) as well as professional training programs for nursing assistant, accountant, nursing assistant, warehouse operator, chef, bus driver, tailor, welder, cosmetician.

However, distance learning is difficult for the professions of welder, production operator or nurse, since most of this training consists of practical training. The situation in 2020 has shown that there is a need to expand distance learning opportunities. We are working with determination in this regard.

Our goal is to create a distance learning platform as an alternative for job seekers who want to study and who have difficulties reconciling learning with their existing obligations or simply find it more convenient and attractive, ”explained the Employment Service.

What professions are missing?

According to the annual occupational barometer of the Employment Service, in 2021. high demand in the market The group of managers and specialists will include employees of the following professions: managers and sales managers, doctors, nursing specialists, teachers, teachers of students with needs specials, psychologists, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, electrical engineers, construction managers.

And in the pool of skilled workers: builders, adjusters and operators of woodworking machines, adjusters and operators of metalworking machines, plumbers and pipe fitters, worker insulators, concrete and concrete finishers, masons, electromechanics and electricians , builders and similar constructors, earthmoving workers.
