Sooner than expected after the end of the basketball season, the most loyal fans of Kaunas “Žalgiris” have to suffer a basketball famine. After a small release from quarantine, members of the Kaunas Honor Club “Žalgiris” finally had the opportunity to meet and discuss issues of concern after a multi-month break.

On Thursday, at the “Sala” restaurant that operates in the “Žalgiris” stadium, the members of the Honor Club enjoyed the year 2018. Paulius Motiejūnas, the director of “Žalgiris”, interacted with them during the final match of the Euroleague, which brought Žalgiris’ team to Piraeus “Olympiakos”, and during the great break of the match.

Members of the Žalgiris Club of Honor asked about the possibilities of keeping the team away from Žalgiris, who had finished the season early on the team, and was interested in future newcomers.

“We are expecting a clearer situation regarding next season’s budget and so far we are monitoring the market more than we are actively participating in.” We have many players with contracts and advantages, there is an opportunity to keep them, but it is also clear that the previous system out of season, when things are decided quickly, has now changed.

As for the possible newcomers, the player prices offered by the agents do not correspond to reality at the moment, so it remains to wait and see how it will be, “said the director of Žalgiris, adding that substantial agreements were reached with Steve Vasturia and Tomas Dimša a little earlier.

Motiejūnas also revealed to members of the Honor Club that “Žalgiris” will not hinder basketball players with contracts to participate in summer league games.

“The weirdest thing is that most basketball players want to play and we don’t ban, but players who have a contract with us will have to take all the risk of injury.” Of course, some of Žalgiris are currently free agents, others have not played for a long and long time for basketball. Therefore, if they want to play, they can, but at their own risk, “Motiejūnas told members of the Žalgiris Honor Club.

The director of Žalgiris was pleased that more and more activity arises as the quarantine ends. On Friday, a new entertainment space “Pakrantė” started on the island of Nemunas near the “Žalgiris” arena, the footballers “Kauno Žalgiris” played their first games on their field on Saturday, and since this Tuesday basketball fans have the opportunity to rent the main field “Žalgiris” for a basketball game.

“The most difficult quarantine is that we are all limited and unable to advance at full speed. Therefore, we are pleased to have been the first to start outdoor events and invite you to have fun on the weekends on the coast. We are also glad that football is back. Kauno Žalgiris’ team of coaches uses the highest technology and works at a high level. The players practiced sports, did not surrender, and supervised throughout the quarantine. And now that they have started playing, they feel that true passion for the sport, “said Motiejūnas at the meeting with the Honor Club.

Another relevant issue for members and all Žalgiris fans is how many spectators will be able to watch the match live in the Žalgiris arena.

“The Euroleague states that each club will be able to decide individually according to the instructions of their governments. We believe that we will be able to exploit the entire arena and we are optimistic. We hope to start selling season tickets in early July. We will start with all venues and belief that things will be as before. Again, if anything changes, we will refund the money and sell tickets for each game separately, “said the director of Žalgiris.
