An internal investigation into the Pfizer vaccine overdose at Marijampolė County Hospital has been completed. A doctor received a large amount of undiluted vaccine at one time. The vial was given to five people to be vaccinated, but it was injected into a nurse. Yes, according to the hospital manager, it happened in a hurry. The doctor who vaccinated the colleague did other jobs at the same time.
“And in the meantime, hemodialysis patients had to be vaccinated. It happened that the employee, without vaccinating the employees, ran in parallel to vaccinate the patients on hemodialysis in another building, ”says the director of the Mantas Česna hospital.

The director says the nurse soon noticed an overdose of the vaccine. When five more doctors from the Marijampolė Hospital were waiting for the vaccine. A nurse who has overdosed on the vaccine is said to be monitored. She still complains of high blood pressure.
“It just came to our attention then. Like everything else. There are no more complaints,” says M. Česna.
According to the head of the hospital, it will still be decided whether the nurses will allow another: the second vaccine. This is the first case in Lithuania of an overdose of a coronavirus vaccine.
A similar incident occurred in Germany a month ago. There, too many doses were injected into the staff of 8 nursing homes.
Professor Aurelija Žvirblienė, a researcher at the Vilnius University Center for Life Sciences, says that vaccine manufacturer Pfizer has tested overdoses of vaccines.
“Both 150 micrograms and 100 higher doses have been tested in clinical trials. In those clinical trials, no very serious side effects were observed due to those higher doses,” says researcher Prof. Aurelija Žvirblienė.
According to the professor, research shows that an overdose of the vaccine should not cause long-term health problems.
“It has been more than half a year since those studies, it has been between 8 and 9 months and there are still no serious long-term side effects,” said prof. A. Žvirblienė.
Although the incident at the Marijampolė Hospital took place in early January, the State Medicines Control Agency found out last night: the nurse herself reported that she had received too much vaccine.
“A review of the database revealed that the hospital also reported it, but it is not mentioned that it is an overdose. It is only said that there is an incorrect preparation of the vaccine with an undesirable phenomenon ”, says the head of the service Gytis Andrulionis.
The head of the Drug Control Service does not assess whether it was an attempt to cover up the incident. The Ministry of Health was also informed. Currently, more than 60 thousand people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in Lithuania. Vaccination continues. In the Šeškinė polyclinic, Vilnius, today the employees of the polyclinic and social institutions were vaccinated:
“The fear was due to the side effects. Unknown, so to speak. We already tried the flu, everything. But here’s a new vaccine that’s a little scary. “
“There are bugs everywhere, humans are not robots. It didn’t scare me a bit.”
The head of the state drug control service says the agency has received more than 200 reports of side effects in a month since the vaccination began.
“About 10 serious cases. These are anaphylaxis, swollen lymph nodes and pain, dizziness, weakness, tremors ”, says G. Andrulionis.
The age of the complainants ranges from 21 to 83 years. The data collected shows that women are still more likely to experience side effects after the vaccine.
