The Cabinet of Ministers will decide on Wednesday whether to extend the restriction of population movement between municipalities until February 28. 24 hours As indicated in the government document, the exemptions provided so far apply to travelers.
Since last week, people have been able to interact more freely with each other, creating so-called ‘social bubbles’. This means that two families or two households can communicate if one of them has no more than one adult (along with minor children) or a person who needs constant care and attention.
Members of the social bubble can move from one municipality to another if they are in different municipalities.
The police restrict the movement of people between municipalities. It is true that there are several exceptions. Among them, when traveling to or from airports, seaports, bus stations that serve international passenger routes, to the municipality of your place of residence due to the death of close relatives.
Nor is it prohibited to travel to work when the workplace is in another municipality, for health services, for other objectively justified reasons of urgency, when it is unavoidable to go to a municipality other than the one where you live.
The restriction also does not apply to people who travel to a municipality other than the one in which they reside, where they have real estate.
When will the restriction be lifted?
Movements between municipalities will be reconsidered when the incidence of Covid-19 in Lithuania decreases. According to the Minister of the Interior, Agnė Bilotait se, it is considered that the restrictions on movement could be gradually relaxed, for example, not restricting travel during the week, but only on weekends and during holidays.
The government’s emergency commission met Monday to discuss the latest police data and changes in population mobility since the introduction of the social support bubble model.
“We are talking about specific indicators. If the number of cases in 14 days will be less than 500 cases per 100,000. The number of positive Covid-19 tests will not exceed 10%, which may be one of the suggestions to think about a certain liberalization of the movement between municipalities, ”A. Bilotaitė told the press this Monday.
It is true that, according to the minister, it is being considered that the movement restriction should not be lifted immediately, but in stages.
“We are considering different options and possibly different stages. First of all, perhaps thinking of the release on normal days, leaving restrictions on weekends and holidays. These are those considerations, but first we must reach those numbers and then it will be possible to talk, ”said A. Bilotaitė.
The quarantine was introduced in Lithuania on November 7 and since December 16 it has been reinforced. The cabinet will also decide on Wednesday whether to extend the quarantine until early March.
