The quarantine could last until early March and his release will depend on the number of cases, says Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys.
His post was handed over to BNS on Friday by spokeswoman Aistė Šuksta.
“I predict that the quarantine restrictions could be extended for another month,” the minister said in a comment.
Currently, the quarantine is valid until the end of January, and the decision to extend it will be made by the Government.
The minister did not predict when quarantine conditions could be relaxed more specifically.
“It just came to our attention then. We currently have more than 500 new cases per day per 100,000 population in two weeks. When the number of cases drops significantly and remains stable for 14 days, then we can expect a gradual reduction in restrictions.” says A. Dulkys.
In an interview with Verslo žinios on Friday, the Health Minister said he predicted that the quarantine will be extended for another month, and its relaxation is only possible after the February push.
To control the coronavirus, the quarantine regime introduced in early November was tightened in mid-December and extended until January 31.
It closed many shops, sports and leisure venues, restricted the movement of people between municipalities and meetings both at home and in public places.
