The number of COVID-19 beds with oxygen supply in the therapeutic profile is reduced by 30 beds at LSMU Kaunas Hospital.
In Kėdainiai hospital, 1 bed of intensive care and resuscitation profile with possibility of VPD is decreasing. There are 2 beds of this profile left in the hospital.
At Kaišiadorys Hospital, after the recovery of all the patients, the COVID-19 disease unit is closed: all 10 beds of the therapeutic profile and 1 COVID-19 of the resuscitation and intensive care profile are destroyed.
According to the leader of the Kaunas Region Management Group for COVID-19 Disease, Doc. Vaidotas Gurskis, the situation in the Kaunas region is currently improving, although inequalities are still visible.
“In the municipalities of Kazlų Rūda, Kalvarija, Vilkaviškis, Prienai, Birštonas and Raseiniai there are between 12% and 18% positive samples for COVID-19, while in the municipalities of Kaunas and Jonava there are 8%, in others municipalities of the Kaunas region remain about 10% “, says Head of the Management Group of the Kaunas COVID-19 Region.
The associate professor points out that despite these inequalities, the situation in hospitals is more stable.
“We see that 32-34 patients come to treatment facilities for two weeks a day, and the average number of outgoing patients is greater than the number of incoming COVID-19 beds. On January 21 we had 164 free beds with oxygen supply. ”Says doc. V. Gurskis
A further reduction in the number of beds will depend on the epidemiological situation and the flow of incoming and outgoing patients.
“We monitor the situation and summarize the data on a daily basis. If the situation is favorable, we will plan to reduce the number of beds for COVID-19 each week,” said the associate professor.
The released beds will continue to be used to treat other patients. We hope this will improve the availability of health care services in Kaunas region hospitals for patients without COVID-19 disease.
Starting next week, a total of 455 COVID-19 beds with oxygen supply and 61 COVID-19 resuscitation and intensive care beds with DPV option will remain in the Kaunas region.
After the second stage of reducing beds, a total of 74 COVID-19 beds will be reduced in hospitals in the Kaunas region.
