The Lithuanian truck driver that entered the ski slope was impressed by the Estonian heat: “The first question was: ‘Have you eaten? “

The day before, Estonian media reported and Lithuanian journalists cited reports from colleagues that a Lithuanian trucker “damaged” a ski slope in Harku Park until he finally got stuck trying to turn around.

On Friday, Edward S. agreed 15 minutes to tell first-hand why everything happened that way and how he behaved, looking for a way out of the situation.

I was very scared when I turned on and saw where it had entered.

The man, who is mature but has yet to gain experience as a tugboat driver, said he appreciated his reputation, neither as a road eagle nor as an unreliable freighter. There was simply a frustrating mistake, probably due to lack of experience, to which the locals, by the way, reacted with the warmth that touched Edward himself.

“It did not happen at night, it was still dark, but it was already morning. And the police did not look for me, they did not call me, I met the agents in the car and I asked them for help myself” 15 minutes interlocutor.

He said this time a relatively light load of paper was transported to Estonia, weighing “only” 6 tons. This circumstance is important to assess how a heavy vehicle could have damaged the ski slopes.

“Fortunately, the last few days in Estonia have been very cold, the temperature was around -19 degrees, so the ground was very frozen. I just put a layer of snow on the surface, ”said the driver.

Luckily for me, it has been very cold in Estonia for the last few days, I just ran into snow on the ground.

As already announced, the local elder had tentatively estimated the damage caused by the truck at 1,000 euros, that was the cost of a tractor to re-level a few kilometers of the track throughout the working day.

“I left the road not at night, but in the morning it was 7:20 at that time. True, it was still dark so at first I didn’t suspect anything bad, that trail goes through the plain. There are hills and slopes there, but they are further away, about 800 meters from the place where I got stuck, ”said the driver.

According to Edward, he soon realized that the navigation wasn’t getting him there. “I am not young, but I only drive the tractor for the first year. It was a rookie mistake – I did not uncheck the checkbox in navigation, which allows to offer the shortest routes and on unpaved roads”, – he admitted. 15 minutes interlocutor.

He said he was moving forward, just because he was looking for a place to turn around. However, this was not the case, so to speak intentionally: the truck moved approximately 1.7 kilometers deep in the forest. Finally, the driver noticed a slightly more spacious area. But it was too slippery for a bulky truck to turn around and back the same way. There a tractor with a semi-trailer got stuck.

“It just came to our knowledge then. I was very scared when it turned on and I finally saw where it had come in,” admitted the driver.

The man tried to hold himself in his arms and seek help, as it seemed right at the time: he tried to call someone, he tried to contact a company that was obviously slow to deliver the cargo at the agreed time.

I was surprised that people didn’t ask me, “What did you do here?” Or “Why did you come here?”

Lithuania was fascinated by Estonian humanity, empathy and attitude towards a foreigner in trouble. At the health track in the morning, there were athletic folks who, of course, couldn’t help but notice the trapped truck and the accident driver. “I was surprised by the friendliness of the locals. The people I knew didn’t ask me, “What did you do here?” Or “Why did you come here?” The first question I heard was: Did you eat? ”. The host praised the Estonian moderates for their warmth.

By the time the man walked away from the truck, Estonian police patrols had already found the vehicle after receiving reports of people actively spending their free time.

“I approached them and asked if they could help me. They asked me if I was the driver of this truck. I said yes, “said Edward, who has no complaints about law enforcement officers in the country.

While waiting for technical assistance, the Lithuanian did not escape the attention of the local media and agreed to give a short interview. “I sincerely apologize to the locals and everyone for the fact that this has happened to me and caused me problems,” he said. 15 minutes interlocutor.
