The investigation provided data that two residents of Kaunas (previously convicted in 1980 and illegitimate in 1969), in violation of established procedure, organized the import, storage and sale of a large number of excise goods – alcohol on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.
Alcohol imported to the territory of the Republic of Lithuania was stored in the warehouses of the logistics company, but it was accounted for, stored and exported as auto parts in the company’s documents.
Last week from January 13-15, officials from the Kaunas County Chief Police Station of the Economic Crimes Investigation Board of the Criminal Police together with colleagues from the Lithuanian Criminal Police Office, the Criminal Service of The Republic of Lithuania Customs and the State Tax Inspectorate carried out an operation in Kaunas and the Vilnius district. records of companies and individuals at home, in cars.
During the search, some 90,000 liters of various alcoholic products, equipment and tools for the production of counterfeit spirits were found and seized.
A total of 5 suspects were arrested during the operation. In addition to the aforementioned Kaunas residents, two previously unconvicted Kaunas residents (born 1961 and born 1968) and one previously convicted Vilnius resident (born 1974) were arrested.
Preventive detention for three detainees: detention for 1 month. For others, lighter preventive detention.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched at the Kaunas County Police Chief’s Station in accordance with article 199 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania.2 str. 2 d. (on illegal disposal of goods subject to special taxes) and art. 2 d. (related to the illicit manufacture, storage, transport or sale of domestic spirits, undenatured or denatured ethyl alcohol, their mortars (mixtures) and apparatus for their production). The crimes are punishable by up to eight years in prison.
The investigation is organized and directed by prosecutors from the Second Prosecution Division of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
