Counted how many animals you need to have to earn a thousand euros per month

In 2020, grain yields were high simply because the last two years had accumulated enough nutrients in the soil because the harvest was poor. We will not always have such a yield, because it is not possible to get a good harvest only on mineral trails.

Every year, by growing 6 to 8 tons of grain per hectare, we will turn the soil into a desert after about 7 to 10 years. It is essential to rebalance everything we take from the ground, as well as bring. And we can only bring organic fertilizers, that is, animal manure. And where to get compost if we don’t have enough livestock. Today, the number of conditioned animals in Lithuania is only 0.19 per hectare when the minimum required is 1 (which means 5 times less than what we breed), and the maximum number allowed in the EU is 1.7 .

Unfortunately, when a farmer has a small farm, it is not possible to meet very expensive environmental requirements. There is an urgent need for a scientifically validated economically viable minimum farm model that allows the State to adequately assess the current situation and make decisions about supporting livestock.

This business is appreciated for the fact that in the Lithuanian climate it is not possible to have horns on the pasture all year round, this requires the construction of farms and the management of manure according to environmental requirements.

How much does the farm cost:

When building a farm for beef cattle, the cost of keeping an animal costs around 3,000 euros. And the place of dairy cows is almost double. The money is big enough, hardly a small farmer can afford that luxury. Keeping a small number of animals is not even worth pursuing animal husbandry.

How much can you earn:

According to data from the Statistics Department, the average quantity of milk per cow per year is 6,225 l, and the average sale price is 242 Eur / t. This means that the rent for a cow is 1506 euros.

For a person to be able to work with animals, the salary must be at least 1000 euros (including taxes) per month, or 12 thousand euros per year. This amount can only be obtained by keeping 15 cattle (8 dairy cows per day, plus 3 replacements and 4 cubs).

This means that a person has to sell around 74,700 liters of raw milk per year. Here the income is for wages only, and where the costs are farm construction, manure handling, feeding, etc. If we calculate all costs correctly then we can tell what the minimum farm size can be for May that small farmer live with dignity, raise and successfully spend children while working. to the life.
